My daughter is marrying an army NCO in a couple weeks. I am retired Air Force and it seems to me that the A.F. would pick up household goods for newly married members spouses. Is that the case for army personnel?

Can my daughter get some stuff picked up from our house and shipped to Ft. Riley where her fiancee is stationed?

Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, It's a bit of a pain but the Army will pay to ship her goods. However I would suggest a DITY (Do It Yourself) move for anything in the continental US. Especially if she doesn't have a whole lot to move. It's quicker and many times there will be a little money left over from the reimbursement.

No. The only time the Army or any other service pays for shipment of household goods is when trasferring from one Perminant Duty station to another on orders.

no. only when he gets orders to a new duty station that is listed as Accompanied. they will not pay to move her stuff to where he is already stationed.

EXCEPTION: if he has been there LESS than a year and did NOT use allof his single HHG weight allotment, they MIGHT let him use the remainder of that weight allowance to mover her stuff, up to the limit. However, if he has less than a year remaining at Riley, they won't.

once they get married he can have his orders amended to add her to his duty station. then he'll need to go to transportation to set up a date to have her stuff packed up and moved to riley...hopefully he already has a place lined up because it's about a year waiting list for housing here and alot of soldiers and families are living as far away as topeka...the post is in the process of building new housing but that's still about a year out..typical military fashion...

Yes but there are rules that apply to when and where. Her future husband needs to contact the base transportation office where he is. They won't even talk to her until they are married and she has orders cut showing she is a spouse.
