They might give you dirty looks, but that's all they're going to give you. In light of the recent VA Tech shootings, people are, of course, going to be pretty sensitive to firearms. The best thing that could have happened in that scenario is someone like you being at that school with a legally owned pistol and(as far as I can tell through the internet) a good head on his shoulders. Think of how the liberals would handle headlines like that: "Rampage ended by brave student", "Hero prevents school massacre". Unfortunately, since no guns are allowed on campus, there's no way to stop him. Just call 911 and hope he runs out of ammo before he gets to you.
I say just keep carrying, stay safe, don't do anything stupid, set a good example of what a gun owner should be doing, and show those 'liberals' that someone having a gun isn't a threat to society, but quite the opposite.

I live in virginia, I have a ccw and I carry open since the laws changed and allowed usto do so, but just by reading your question, the way you worded it, I can tell you have the kind of attitude that draws negative attention to yourself. Carrying a firearm is a huge responsibility, and taking it lightly, and displaying the type of attitude you are showing here is the kind of attention the entire firearms community doesn't need. Also you should know the law, you are under the age of 21, you cannot carry a pistol, concealed or otherwise unless you're 21 in virginia. Call your local state police barracks and ask the desk sgt. He'll tell you the same thing I just told you, I just called my local barracks, the one on military highway in chesapeake to confirm it.Every public range in the tidewater area will not allow any civilian under the age of 21 to even handle a pistol on range unless their parent or guardian is present. You carrying the pistol, tho it's legal to open carry in virginia, is illegal simply because of your age.

Why do you get dirty looks when you open carry your Glock? To begin with, you sound like you've got a chip on your shoulder. If you walk around half ****** with an attitude and you are open carrying, guess what? You are going to get strange looks.
If you are legally carrying a handgun don't you think that legislature can be changed if enough people complain? Lighten up. You are being part of the problem, not part of the solution.

I understand the fact that you confidence is boosted by carrying a gun out in the open. How long do you think it will be before some guy who has nothing to lose sucker punches you and takes your piece or worse kills you with it? I know the response to this comment will be, "Nobody messes with me". That would be the response of the inexperienced. You might want to take a different approach before you or someone else gets hurt, killed, or you end up being convicted of a crime you had no intention of committing. That the police can do something about.

this complete element does not sound ceremony i be attentive to that gun rules variety from state to state yet I allways theory that 21 grew to become into the federal age to purchase/own a handgun consistent with probability I ignored somthing yet i be attentive to that Virginia has stiffer gun rules than maximum.i be attentive to for a actuality that in case you have a Pa hid weapons enable you're no longer allowed to hold in Virginia yet i will carry in a good number of the different bordering states.just to be risk-free i think of you ought to have a 2d look at Virginas rules before you carry your Glock lower back.

I didnt realize that was how the law was in Virginia. The reason why you get the looks is have you watched the news latley? There was just another school shooting in Delaware the other day in Delaware and then the Va shooting in April most people are scared of guns they think they kill and people who carry them are dangerous. When they see a young kid like yourself with a Glock on your hip, those school shootings probly are the first things that come to mind.

I am staunchly in favor of our right to keep and bare arms. I do so on a regular basis, though I do so concealed and completely legally.
I am no expert on Va. law but I doubt very seriously that you can possess a handgun until you are 21.
Regardless of this detail, you clearly have an anger problem and a self image problem. You likely have other issues too and your immaturity here shows me that, regardless of the law, you are not qualified to carry that deadly weapon and make the decisions that it brings. I do not count you as one of my fellow friends of the Second Amendment. You are antagonistic, simply trying to pick a fight and draw negative attention to yourself. I hope that you grow into a responsible gun owner. Until then, leave it at home.

I've never heard of a state permitting something the Federal Government forbids.
Virginia might allow minors to hunt with handguns and adult supervision, but I doubt it is legal for a minor to carry a handgun openly.
In fact, I've never before heard that Virginia was an open carry state. I've always been told that it is kinda uptight about folks packing iron.
To tell the truth, I don't think you are telling the truth.

Most people are afraid of what they do not understand. The wild west days are gone so very few people openly carry weapons any more so it seems unusual to people. Really what are you trying to prove by showing it off. Are you that insecure that you need to show how cool you are? I often carried my handgun in the past but never felt the need to bring additional attention to me by having it out and in the open. Although it mightbe your right to carry openly it might be smarter and more mature to carry concealed. The chance that you will ever need to use it is very small.

The answer you are seeking is - there is a major problem with current day america. Television glorifies violence with guns, and people who don't own any firearms only see people getting shot. On the news outlets you never hear of people'slives being saved with firearms, only acts of violence by people who cannot leagally own firearms. Until we, as citizen's of this country, learn to defend ourselves from the criminal society, will continue to be frowned upon by future victims.
