What are you thoughts on why this is happening? Free to be witty, but I'm also looking for serious responses.
thank you

There is also a set of quads.

25% of them are identical. So fertility drugs doesn't seem to be the major cause of this.

I agree that hormones in meat and dairy products are probably a contributing factor, along with the fertility drugs. I am sure that better prenatal care is a factor as well, since multiple birth pregnancies have a higher rate of miscarriage. My mother has a twin brother, and I spent each of my pregnancies hoping I was having a healthy single infant, but I have the greatest admiration for couples who handle raising multiple birth babies.

Fertility treatments. In-vitro treatments have a 1 in 4 chance of producing twins. Fertility drugs have a 5% to 10% percent chance of producing twins. All of the large multiple births that have been in the news in the last 20 years have come from fertility treatments. The general practice is to fertilize many eggs and inject all of them into the uterus, hoping one will survive. However, occasionally many of them survive, at which point the doctor generally terminates some of them for the health of the mother and remaining babies. (which is why some religions are against in-vitro) Sometimes the mother refuses to abort any of the fetuses, carrying them all full term.

OK... with the fact this is a religious, chat area....may I submit: Based upon no biblical scriptures, but on what a woman might explain as "intuition"... for a male ..perhaps a "gut' feeling. Many now are of the belief that the world is approaching the end of it's "trip ticket" (end of time)? Of course there are many arguments for or against such thoughts. Going with the idea that time may be winding down for humanity, how about the possibility of there being still a long list of "spirit children" or what ever you may wish to label them as, waiting to obtain a physical body.

Further consider in this modern age, the facts of combined "birth control" and abortion, there just might be a "bottle neck, of a back up" waiting to get a ticket for transfer to planet Earth.

This should not be a difficult thought to in counter and consider, how many of the readers have stood in line at airports, holding tickets for a flight, that has been delayed?

Multiple births may very well be similar to "double booking over even over booking" for air line flights.

Perhaps the problem is we as humanity are so busy with every day affairs, we fail to see the natural patterns involved in life.

I'm not a doctor but I would guess the reason is the higher use of fertility drugs.

Edit: Even if 25% are identical that still means that 75% aren't. I am sure that 25% is due to enviromental factor like hormones. Very interesting though.

I think it is because of increased use of fertility drugs in addition to the volume of growth hormones being used in the meat and dairy industries. This is also why little boys and girls at seven years of age start thinking about having sex so they can make their own little twins by the time they're 12. Lovely.

GO ORGANIC, (((Rammie)))!!

[It could also be the result of use of birth control pills prior to pregnancy, which alter a woman's hormonal balance.]

So many infertile couple are using the drug 'clomid' IT makes the ovaries expel multiple eggs each month rather than one. That is why most multiple births are fraternal twins/triplets, not identical.

I'm an only child, I can only imagine how much fun having a twin is :D

Edit: Oh, why is this happening? As everyone else has already said, it's probably cause of the infertility drugs.....

It is the impact of environmental factors in the general sense; as people have grown taller and healthier over the last century with improved lifestyle, so also have they grown more fertile.

It is a consequence of fertility drugs and multiple implantations during in vitro fertilization attempts.
