Last night our neighbor's cats were very vocal with one another. I assume they were mating calls. A couple hours later the male showed up on our doorstep crying. His head, ears and face were bleeding from several scratches and it looks like a small part of one ear was bitten off. He has been sleeping here for hours and no one has been home at his place, so we have been watching over him. Any advice?

Yes they can, but this does not sound like this is the case here. This sounds like what you probably heard was the female cat calling for a mate, and several showed up, and this poor guy got the worst end of the deal by being attacked by another male cat who was also vying for the females attention. Since this is not your cat, but your neighbors, keep him warm and comfortable, and if he will let you, you can try to clean him up a little bit with some warm water. Give him plenty of water, and a little food and see if he will take either. And, be on the look out for your neighbors to come home and let them know what happened. You might also suggest to them that they have this guy neutered so this will not happen again. Bless you for watching over this guy until his "parents" come home. Hope he will be OK.

First advice neuter your cat!

When a female cat in the neighborhood is in heat any male cat in the area will collect around her and fights between competing males are common. The wounds your male cat has is most likely caused by other male cats wanting to mate with the female.

For the protection of your pet. Get it neutered and keep it inside!

Sometimes when cats mate the Female becomes very aggressive, because mating for her can be very painful. She may attempt to attack her mate during the process but really during mating if everything goes normal, no real damage is done due to the position. Maybe something else was going on!

They certainly can and do get injured. Not only that - the bites are the way most feline leukemia and FIV are transmitted from cat to cat.

It is great that you will give him a safe place to relax right now. If he will let you you can clean him up with a little warm soapy water.

I hope you can encourage your neighbors to have him neutered. If he hasn't gotten a bad disease from this encounter he may do so with another.

i ask your self an identical ingredient simply by fact I even have 2 woman Siamese cats that are 2 years previous an no longer spayed yet I in basic terms took hem in after my mom kicked the bucket and that they are getting spayed next week yet they're the two in warmth now( sisters) and one is screaming bloody homicide and the different one is quiet! i think of she is in discomfort is a warmth cycle like a woman's menstration? reason that hurts us women horribly and if she's bleeding maybe the cats are in discomfort! Any recommendations

See, the boy cat has little barbs on his thingy. When he's finished, the barbs stimulate ovulation in the girl cat. This is felt by the girl cat and she will scratch at him for hurting her.
