Kai Tak was a single runway International Airport and was regarded as the most challenging, the most difficult, the most spectacular, one of the most dramatic and one of the most dangerous in the world specially when landing on runway 13 rather than landing on runway 31.

Not necessarily. There are airports hung on the narrow plateaux on the side of mountains, others with a mountain at the far end making a missed approach impossible, others where you navigate a narrow valley before landing (Cusco was like HK in that respect).

HK was probably known as the most challenging *international* airport, not the most challenging of any airport.

It was a thrilling white-kunckler, that's for sure. Most dangerous in the world? Probably not. Most challenging for pilots? Again, probably not, although among the high-profile international airports, it's probably right up there.

I believe so. Right in the middle of a city and making us have to shout "I CAN'T HEAR YOU, THE AIRPLANES ARE COMING!" whenever we're in a peaceful conversation. On how its dangerous, my father told me it was a dreadful and the rides were CRAZY!!! He said the Kai Tak Airport was a memorable place but then it was not clean and it gave tourists a bad first look of the fantastic HK.

I used to fly on Japan Asian Airways between Taiwan to Kai Tak and it was awesome! Before touching down on the runway, the JAA pilots would navigate the jet low enough over the rooftops of the buildings and one could see the people sipping tea, playing mahjong, etc. It was always an exciting experience and demonstrated the flying skills of the JAA pilots!
