Since there does not seem to be anyway to describe the barb, please see the whatisthis.jpg posted at http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/g_s_kelso@sbcglobal.net/lst?.dir=/My+Documents&.view=l
It was found stuck in the cat on the shore of Lake Worth in north central Texas. We do not even know if it is animal, vegetable, or mineral. The dime is added to the picture to give you a relative size.

Man, that's a good one on me....totally clueless! I don't think it's a splinter with a right angle like that, and it's not a porcupine quill, I work with those (crafts and such).

If you don't see any manufacturing marks, I'm inclined to think it may be some sort of fish bone, but your best bet is to give a call to the largest museum in your area, ask if you can bring something down to be identified for any of the animal experts they have on staff. They LOVE it when people have weird things they need identified, are happy to assist free of charge.

Let them take a look at it. If they don't know, try a vet in the area, they may have seen this before.

Either a splinter or a barb off a plant.
