Some black students asked permission to sit under a tree that was traditionally "white" territory--the next day, three nooses were hung from the tree. The black students went to the administration and said it was a hate crime, the administration said it wasn't. They went to a higher court and said it was a hate crime, the higher court said it wasn't. Fighting broke out at parties--some white students attacked a black student with broken bottles. No charges were filed. Black students later attacked some white students, charges were filed immediately for ATTEMPTED MURDER when the white student was not really harmed at all besides for maybe a broken nose. The black students were tried by an all-white jury and I think two were convicted while the rest await trial.

Long story short, racism and injustices in Louisiana.

It all boils down to unfair practices in and of justice...... The problems between these kids started LONG before the noose and beatings....... and I *think* there was LOTS of lying going on........ The *white* kids who hung the nooses in the tree got NOTHING but a slap on the wrist and some time off from school, and that was WRONG...... saying it was not a hate crime is a crime of itself....... those hanging nooses where the same as pointing a gun !!!!!!!!! A THREAT to peoples lives !!!!!!!!! The *beating* of the boy was uncalled for in many ways, but I also realize frustration and anger can make people do things........In my humble opinion there were a few people who were AFRAID to stand up for what is and was right in this whole episode........ Black and White....... Parents of those boys who hung the nooses should have taken a belt to em, and made it clear that such things are just down right stupid and wrong........ go in peace..... God bless

It's that way as well with whites of different classes. In Abline TX, there were these high school jocks that killed a skater kid, in an Ihop parking lot. They hit him, beat him with a tire chain, and ran over him with a car twice. All the while there were two cops eating inside the Ihop. Only one of the jocks got arrested, and he only received 5 years probation. The other way around and the skater kid would have gotten at least life.

The Most Reverend Al is upset because 6 black guys beat up a white guy (some bruising - he was able to attend a school function that night) and were charged with attempted second degree murder. Way way overcharged if you ask me. He is also mad because the white boys that started the trouble that led up to the fight by hanging nooses in a tree that black students wanted to sit with white students under received no charges. It is seen (probably correctly) as justice being applied unjustly due to race.

Edit: to .. "attempted to kill"? Far from it. A minor beating (he attended a school function that night).

as I understand it, a bunch of white kids taunted and harrassed a bunch of black kids, even hanging nooses in trees and such. The white kids may have done some violence as well.

six black kids retaliated, seriously beating one white kid. the black kids were all charged.

the white kids got off scott free. neither the white DA nor the media nor anyone else batted an eye until a white kid was beaten; it was ignored and excused when black kids were the targets.

rather than listen to all the dolts above me,do your own research go to google or youtube or wikipedia and search.
or colorofchange.org
try cnn, npr, msnbc or lousiana daily times.
all you are going to get here are biased opinions either way,I do support the jena 6,but wikipedia will give you a non biased story of the events.

Racist rednecks are still apparently allowed to get away with racism.

6 black people should be allowed to attempt to kill 1 white person if somebody else put nooses in a tree.

The 6 had to literally be pulled of the 1, as he was unconscious on the floor. He spent 3 hours in the emergency room.

From what I understand, six black guys beat up one white guy, and Al Sharpton is upset because the black guys got in trouble.
