OKAY, I entered the DEP program for the Navy a week ago and I have a job already, but I want to switch my job to Master at Arms. Can I do this, or am I locked into my current job? I don't leave for over 5 months.

I will definitely qualify for the job. I got an 89 on the ASVAB and took the Nuclear test and passed it and they want me to go Nuclear, but I'm really just not that interested in engineering, so i'm going to go more towards Security/Intell direction.

MRSJVB- they may be overmanned but I was offered this rating a week ago and turned it down. I'm pretty sure they're still looking to fill spots. Also, I just read an article the other day (sorry can't find it) which was talking about how they're still trying to increase the MA rate since it's taking a more force protection role than in the past.

Update: I contacted the recruiter today and he said that MA should be an easy one to cross into because it is one of the rates they are making a big push for this year because it has been locked up for years prior.

While in the DEP you can change your job as many times as you want until you go to MEPS and do the oath of enlistment to active duty right before you go to boot camp. The only issue you may have is your line scores that you got on the ASVAB. If you don't qualify for the job then you can't have it.

only if there is a slot open,. and frankly, MA is pretty locked up at the moment. You can put in a request, but there is no promise that it can be honored.

Also, if you are currently slated for an undermanned rating, they will NOT let you switch unless it is into an equally undermanned rating. MA is overmanned at this time.

Yes you can switch jobs while in DEP. It might change your ship out day though.
Tell your recruiter you want to switch and if he says you can't, then inform him that you're no longer interested in enlisting. He'll get it changed!! =)

Good luck!

hey, i think they give you an option in boot camp to reclassify...but than again the navy is so wishy washy, you never know whatcha going to get...if you can't switch jobs in bootcamp, than you'll just going to have to tough it out until you get to your first duty station and than try to switch over than. so you looking at about another 3years before you can change over.
