we just brought my kitten to the vet the other day cause of worms that were making it sick, and it just got me thinking about what it could do to a human. firstly, is it possible for people to get tapeworms anyway? and then how long before severe damage can be done to the human body? (any sites with this kind of info would be great)

In science it said that people do get them, and thats how they get it- is from an animal.

They live in your stomach eating your food and when they leave they either go though your body and come out of the skin, or other openings (nose, mouth) or though the other end.

And they are fragile, if one appears go to the doctors immediatly!

They can tear easily and leave segments in your skin and such whentrying to pull them out.

I have heard of tapeworms in the human body. One variety can reach 46ft long. Many people have worms and never know until they have abdominal or intestinal surgery. It just lives there for decades, eating what the 'host' has eaten. It can be the cause of a protruding stomach even though a person may exercise to flatten it. A stool sample is an easy way to see if any types of worms are in a body.
