Hi there.

I have to present a speech...why nuclear power station shouldn't be built in our town.

I know people wouldn't want it because of the danger of accidents etc. but that's not enough for a speech ^.^
Why would you be against the build of a nuclear power plant in your town?
Thank You!

The problems and potential problems

1. Radioactive material being delivered and removed.
2. Nuclear Waste/expended fuel and it's disposal.
3. Danger of terrorists targeting nuclear facilitys and deliveries
4. Possible meltdown accidents. New pebble bed reactors should reduce/eliminate that risk.
5. Water Usage, the plant uses lots of water to cool reactor/make electricity.
6. Thermal Pollution hot/warm water is release back into water source causing issue with plant and animal life.

So there are a bunch, go do some research figure out which ones are the most important and get some info to explain why something is important to consider. good luck

Nuclear power is great, it produces large amounts of no pollution energy, except for a couple of things first there's the possibility of accident, humans being humans sometimes they do stupid things but new designs mitigate some of that, second
and probably the biggest thing is the waste, nuclear waste remains radioactive for thousands of years, some types have a half life of 10,000 years, is that something we should take lightly? I don't think so.

No. The threat of global warming is far greater than the threat of nuclear power.

Cannot help you. I wish they would build a few nukes here. It's better than the 4 smoke stacks from the oil fired plants.

I worked on Naval nuclear reactors for years, and while they are "clean" there is the huge problem with disposal of expended core materials. Current storage methods are simply not up to the task.
Additionally, there is always the chance of another Chernobyl type accident.

Nuclear power is stored and transported through this country every day. What's the problem?

The reason would be ignorance. Nuclear is the cleanest option we have today for generating power.
