Hi i am only 15 years old. I've noticed that my lower jaw sticks out
from the side. when i am looking at someone face to face it's fine
but from the side it looks a bit big. I met a dentist and he says
i will have to wear braces for a 2-3 years. Then probably get jaw
surgery when i graduate. I have been abused about my "chin"
i have been called names like big chin..etc..

What i am worried about is, will my lower jaw keep growing?
Or is it in a locked position? When i am sleeping i wear a
cloth around my chin to the head so it stays in place. I dont want my chin to grow any more, i mean people find me good-looking, but my lower jaw makes me feel insecure about myself.

My daughter had jaw surgery. They brought her jaw forward and she now has a gorgeous smile. I do not believe that wearing the cloth will stop your chin from growing. What I believe happened to my daughter it was her upper jaw that didn't grow where it should be.

I too went through much teasing as a child so I definately understand how you feel. My daughter now has the prettiest smile one could ever dream of and it's taken her a while to believe that she is now very pretty. She was so insecure before and the jaw surgery after many years of braces has been a gift to her. So if Doctor's tell you that you only have to wear your braces for 2-3 years that doesn't sound bad to me.

If you write to me I can share photo's and more with you. I do care.

I'm a dentist.

Dr. Albert is mistaken if he thinks you need to see a physician to determine the presence of a tumor in your jaw. Any doctor (dentist or physician) can do that.

While I'm impressed with your level of attention to the growth of your bones as well as your instinctive understanding of the way bones grow, a cloth around your chin will not prevent your chin from growing. It'd take something much more than that.

As I don't have any pictures by which to even begin evaluating your problem, I cannot tell you what your problem is. If it's your entire jaw that is too large, orthognathic surgery may be appropriate. If it's just your chin that's too large (a-la Jay Leno), simple genioplasty may be sufficient.

In either case, have an oral surgeon evaluate your problem.

There is nothing to be worried about. My dentist too recommended me to wear braces to prevent my jaws from sticking out. I have been wearing them for years and is about to have them removed for good. My jaws doesnt seem to be growing. In fact, it is getting rounder. Do not worry much.

FIRST, HAVE A PHYSICIAN DETERMINE THERE'S NOT SOME KIND OF TUMOR AND THEN TALK TO AN ORTHODONTIST TO SEE WHICH OPTIONS YOU HAVE.
