It depends on how old is the plasma.
Newer sets (especially the first 200 hours) are easier to burn in.
After 1,000 hours, they claim plasma is as good an an old CRT.

If you get image retention, some TVs have a "white wash" menu, where they blast an all white screen for 3-5 min.
If it is severe burn in, it may never go away. However, under certain circumstances, even LCDs can get burn in.
