Work in the morning for 8hrs, so I will be gone @ that time & don't want my dog to cry. I don't want a chihuahua, or a dog that will destroy my furniture. I do want to jog with it once in a while but I don't want it to be a requirement. I heard that King Charles Cavalier are good for my life style, but am unsure. I do live in an apartment.

Thank you

Oh and pls don't tell me I shouldn't get one I have made up my mind. I have always wanted one and I do have the time or else I wouldn't have even asked nor done a whole year of researching and preparing for one. I don't want another type of animal either. I know about the training and everything I just wanted to know which one you would recommend. Yes I will also go to an animal shelter to get one.

Thank you

I have a pekingese and he is a great pet. He is quiet for the most part. The first day that i got him he cried for about 5 min. he is sweet and loving. He only barks when he wants something like food, going outside, or treats. He wasn't that hard to train. I think a smaller breed dog would be better for your life style because of the lack of room and exercise. Bigger breed dog needs more room to run around and they tend to love the outdoors.

When a dog chew up the furniture means they are bored. It isn't something that most dogs do just for fun out of the blue. They need more toys or attention. The more toys and attention you give them the less likely they'll destroy your furniture. Maybe you should try getting 2 dogs so they'll have someone to play with while you are gone.

All dogs are different though. Just like people every dog has their own personalities. Having a dog is like having a baby. You do have to make time and sacrifices for your pet. Such as if you work 8 hours a day then when you get home or on the weekends make sure to give him all the attention he can get. Dogs are naturally pack animals. They see their owners as part of their pack. If dogs don't get enough time with you they can get separation anxiety and stressed out.

All breeds of dogs will have some "yappers"... kind of the luck of the draw when buying a puppy. For an apartment you would want a low energy dog but one that is athletic as well for your jogging...

When talking to your breeder make sure you tell them exactly what you want in your dog... Anymore they do puppy testing on puppies at day age 49. This will pretty much let you know what type of puppy you are getting... plus help the breeder guide your selection to your needs...

Stay away from pet stores as they are not privy to such testing... Breeders that are knowledgeable on their own lines are the best hon...

Plus most Breeders are in it for the breed NOT the money so are less expensive than the pet stores...

Good Luck

Puppies bark (except for Basenji's) and they will chew and destroy things if not trained. You may want ot consider getting an adult dog that is already trained. There is no such thing as a puppy that will not soil your floors, chew on things he or she is not supposed to or make noise when you are gone. They have to be trained! If you don't have time for training, then getting an already trained dog that is used to living in an apartment is a good place to start. If you check with rescue shelters or SPCA, they can often guide you to a dog that was rescued and fostered and TRAINED or who was trained but the owners "got rid of it" because of moving, divorce, or whatever reason. Still, a dog can have "accidents" or make noise when adjusting to new surroundings.

Corgis are pretty good for you life style. I used to have one and they are really good dogs not to vocal and mine never destroyed any of my furniture. Plus they are active they used to be used for herding cattle so they can run although they might try to herd you into going where they want to go! LOL!
Good luck!!

Oh, and I have a pomeraninan and he dosn't ever bark b/c I got him at 8 wks old from the breeder and he hadn't learned to bark yet and now if he does a little bit I just tell him no! I live in an apartment and he is wonderful, I am just not sure how he would be jogging with you b/c poms are known to have luxating pattela problems.

I think you should rethink the dog idea. You can't submit a request to the 'perfect lassie society'. You take your chances when getting a dog, and responsible pet owners work with their animals' issues instead of exchanging them like they were a sweater they got from their grandma at christmas.

You have to TRAIN a dog not to destroy your furniture.

Dogs WILL make noise.

Get a stuffed one.

none. well, don't you think you would be lonely if you were a dog and left alone...and in an apartment? get a fish! Or a cat or a bird instead.

why dont you get a cat instead of a dog
cats r happy to be left as long as they have food a litter tray and are pleased to see you when you get home
they dont chew your home up
make sure you get a great scratching post for their claws

I don't think you should get a dog. You aren't home, and you don't realize that dogs need to be trained.
