I have just got a puppy (7 weeks old) and would like to know what gender it is. We were told it was a girl, but it has a bit i think may be male, can anyone tell me how to find out?

Take a look at this site http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=0&cat=1760&articleid=924
it explains how to tell the difference quite easily and there are pictures.

Did you not ask the person who gave you the pup? If not, why not? To be perfectly honest with you wendish, i've never, ever heard of someone getting a pup and not knowing the sex of it. Anyway, to answer your question, lay your pup on its back, don't force it to but make out you're playing and want to tickle its belly, and if the whole belly area is smooth, with no lumps or bumps, then you have a girl. But if the belly area has a little willy looking thing on it ( did i really just write that? ) sort of half way up its belly, then its a boy!

Well I for one wont laugh at you,
I bought a gsd baby girl and when I got her home, she DID look like a dog, her bits just werent in the right place.
I even phoned the breeder to make sure Id been given the right pup, I felt foolish but I needed to know.
as she got older it all sorted itself out, But no some bits are not in the normal place when young. and its no good looking for dangly bits as proof of a dog pup, they come later as all these smart a"*+!'s should know.

If the breeder told you the puppy is a girl... Then the puppy is a girl.. Who are you to question that if you can't tell male from female?

Roll puppy over onto his/her back. If the pup has a small chestnut shaped lump right in between its legs then she is a girl. If there is a lump further towards the abdomen then he is a boy.

you are joking right?

Honestly, if you can't tell, take it to the vet for it's first set of shots. They will tell you. At 7 weeks, it should go to the vet now anyway.

I am fairly certain that whoever you got the pup from knew if it was a girl or boy.

Look underneath to see if it has a penis. Sorry to be graphic, but it is usually pretty easy to tell. A girl dog wont have anything like it---just a smooth stomach and what not.

Just have a wee peek between the legs (the rear legs). Don't worry, he or she won't mind, thats normal in dog behavior.
