Probably hurt, or maybe he just wants to come out on top( some guys can't stand to "lose" or have anyone get one over on them.) Maybe he thinks if he "puts you in line" now that you'll "know better" in the future.

Yes he is prolly really hurt that is the only time I have done mean things towards someone I really love because I was hurt by them

He is hurt or a manipulative pathetic excuse of a guy.
Depends on situation. He may love you but does not know how to express that.

Who knows if he really loves you? He probably just isn't the type to back down. My advice: blame his behaviour on his mother. That'll get him.
