I took it to a pawn shop and they only offered 25 dollars for the Canon AE1 plus a telephoto lens, macro lens, flash, unused replacement battery, and even a roll of film.
I have a digital now, and see why 35mm is obsolete for most people, but is no one interested in them anymore? I could just give it away to a university art student that I know.

Before you do that, try your luck on Ebay..
But really film is dead...

You can give it away if you like

Hi! Yeah giving it away to an art student would be very nice but with E-bay and Classifieds out there you could definitely get way more money for your camera. Whenever you take anything to a pawn shop, unless it is really expensive or high demand, they will try to devalue your merchandise but then sell it for way more than they buy it for. However if you decide to not sell it or give it away then just hold on to it because one day they may stop making those kinds of cameras and you will have yourself a limited edition. Well I hope that I have helped you. Good Luck in whatever you decide!

Try buying a true wide angle in digital. You might want to rethink this. Have you shot night pictures yet? Film is not yet dead. It still has applications that is prohibitively expensive in digital. Donating it is a better idea than trashing it. It will be making pictures long after you sensor fills with dust...

You might want to keep the lenses and other accessories in case you ever get a digital SLR that uses the same type. Still, I agree giving it to a needy student is the best idea.

I vote for giving it to a high school or college student. You can even give them a 30 to 45 minute "how to" course. You'll feel good about yourself and help someone get started in this wonderful hobby.

There are plenty of people interested in them, but they are mostly students and people just entering into photography.

You can sell your gear on eBay, but you'll probably top out at around $100. If you want the cash, great, but someone else will probably get more out of it if you want to give it to them.
