We just got him yesterday. He is an 8 week old cairn terrier, and his tummy looks like it is swollen. When he goes he has to strain alot and it is runny. This morning I found him eating his own feces. What is wrong with him?

He is not throwing up, and they gave me his shot record, he is not due for any shots until Oct. 1.

Two options: Vet first thing Monday or take this puppy straight back to the breeder. Only a VET that EXAMINES the pup can tell you what is wrong with it. Sounds like it is at least wormy if not something worse. You could always get him checked by a Vet and if it is something serious then get a refund from wherever you got the pup from and take him back there or treat him at whatever cost it is to you, as well as whatever risk there may be regarding the pup's outlook for survival. (May be fine with just worming, may be something much more serious.)

There could be any number of things going on here. Are you sure he has all his shots? Did you change his food? Is he vomiting? Have you noticed blood in his stool? Is he drinking water and eating? Has he over eaten? Some of these things are minor some are MAJOR I would not hesitate too long. You need to contact a vet right away.

You probably need to get him to a vet! Sounds like he may have parvo. Have you changed his food recently? Are there any worms in his feces? Does he have fever? I hope he's ok! As far as him eating his own feces - this is normal - its a domination or territorial behavior.

Is he throwing up alot? My cousin got a puppy and it had diarrhea and was vomiting, it turned out the person she got him from didnt give him all his shots after he was born. You might want to take him to a vet ASAP just to be sure.

the breeder just probably gave to much worming stuff is the reason why his stomach and the my dog has diarrhea some times, make sure u give him good food such a 'james wellbeloved' and plenty off water . no idea why he does that. my labradors did that a few times when they were puppies, but they stop at the age of four months. never use purina and iams, bad stuff in them causes hyperness and and DIARRHEA

I think you should call the vet. I hope he was examined by a vet before you bought him. He may be full of worms or he could have parvo. Call the vet.
