I had a really rough winter last year I lost a very close friend My brotherinlaw was badly hurt ect. Anyway during this I had a bad migraine with vision problems, speech problems and numbness. It scared me really bad. I went to see a neuroligist and they said I was fine. however whenever a glare hits my eye I see spots and it scares me so bad and I get panicy. The dr gave me 5 mg of Lexapro but I'm worried to take it. Since I have traumatic anxiety do I need meds os will it go away?

Lexapro is a very good medication. But rather than depend on the neurologist and family doctor, you should see a psychitrist who not only knows the best psychotropic meds for mood stabilization, but also can help you work through the anxiety from the trauma.

Counseling is a good way to work through issues with the Lexapro to help until you are able to find other ways to reduce the stress.

If you don't have insurance, call your local mental health center (state or county) where the cost is usually on a sliding fee scale.

You probably don't need medication as your anxiety only occurs with something specific; it's not always there by what you say. Try doing some deep breathing and meditating a few times a week. Put in your mind what the neurologist said and imagine in your mind being calm when you think about a glare hitting you and seeing spots. You have to train the mind not get anxious or fearful. Keep reminding yourself that the neurologist said there is nothing wrong with you, and that the fear is in your mind.

Hi Beach Girl, I would be more tempted to begin Meditation or learn EFT (emotional freedom techniques) to care for this problem than to rely on the medication. These are life skills that will then be available to you for the rest of your life.

Stress, like you suffered last winter can cause alot of issues in the body and the best way to combat these issues is to ensure that you have the tools available to you to control stress during such times.

The word disease is often broken down to Dis Ease.......which helps explain why stress is one of the leading causes of disease. When we realize that disease is caused by dis ease within the mind or body then we understand just how important controlling stress is.

Anxiety is generally a chemical thing rather than anything physical so the drugs will simply allow your brain to settle back down until it gets things back to normal on it's own.

Anxiety can manifest itself physically. Go see a mental health professional and see if they can help you.

You should listen to your doctor, he will be able to tell you whether your problems are stress or neurological.
