i have a little fever and I feel like eating soups and a lot of orange juice. Is it wise to continue dieting or just consume about 1500 calories until my cold is over in order not to overly tax myself?

There are ways to calculate how many calories you can consume and methods to factor in the content of those calories (proteins, carbohydrates, etc.) to keep from throwing your diet concerns to the wind, but when you have an illness of any sort your resistance is at its weakest, so it's probably safer and more sensible to just go ahead and eat whenever you feel so inclined because it takes fuel to make energy, and it takes energy to fight off any illnesses. Typically you'll crave the things that are best for you when you're sick anyway, such as the soups and juices you've been consuming.

Having soup and juices will keep you under you planned calorie total. Both are low in calories (unless you are eating creamed soups). Now since soup is sometimes high in sodium your scale may show a bit of an increase but don't be concerned, this is just a bit of water retention that will go away.

I don't diet when I have a cold, I just try to make sure that I drink plenty of fluids as a fever can dehydrate you. If at possible instead of juice try eating the whole fruit instead. In the case of oranges a good amount of nutrition is in the "stringy part" which you don't get in the juice and the whole fruit also has more fiber which will keep you fuller during the day.

When your not feeling well, back off on your current diet and just try to eat good food to make you feel better quicker.

it's best to nix the diet until you are well...don't deprive yourself. eat some chicken noodle, or some potato soup....those two are the best for colds...and take some echinacea...it helps build up your immune system. and of course drink your orange juice.

don't try to stress yourself, just drink as much liquid as possible, and if you can keep your diet going
