If you believe in heaven, what do they need prayers for? Their in paradise, and need for nothing. If you believe in hell, then you also believe it's too late for the souls there.

It is not superfluous, but it is too late to do anything about the souls in heaven or hell. We decide where we spend eternity while here on earth. Once we die, we just live with the consequences of our decision. Therefore, it is important right now to decide where we'll be later, and to pray for others to make the decisions we would want them to make.

It is superfluous... The spirits in Heaven and purgatory will be taken care of by God Himself, because the souls are in His domain now.

Souls in heaven or hell won't be affected by our prayers. They either go to one place or another based on what they believed and did in this life. Once they get there there is no changing of God's mind as to where they will go. So, with that said, Jesus it the way - the truth - and the life - No man can get to God but through Him because of his sacrifice for us on the cross. I wish all people believed this because I believe that Jesus and living for him and in him is the only way to heaven.

prayer is a good thing for some people, and if it makes them feel better praying for souls in heaven then no harm done, now as for praying for souls in hell, no, they are there for a reason, why should they be equal with good people, no no no.

Prayer is never superfluous. Prayer is needed in the spirit world, as well as here on earth.

As there is but flimsy mythological evidence for the existence of God, heaven and hell, there is no (or scant) rational motive to pray at all.

Whatever floats your boat though, floats your boat.

Praying is just a waste of time.
About the same as posting a note up the chimney
about what you want for Xmas.
Father C doesn`t exist.
Neither do any gods.
