Depends on how true is it, I mean is the whole cat is outta the bag ? and also depends on the level of intimacy the rumor is related to.Is it way too personal. Is it really giving you sleepless nights and bothering you way too much. As far as stopping the rumor is concerned, I think its near to impossible, though you can definitely beat it by enusing a new rumor contrary to it. All you need is a good friend circle to spread it. I have a personal opinion, whatever it is and no matter how serios it is, take is sportively, dont overreact or react too much and going by your display snap( which I assumed to be yours ) you already look great; Now wouldnt that make you or give you a celeb status, cuz all of us at some point of time wanna be a celeb ( because babes and sexier ones always have rumors behind their backs ; which personally I like ). Dont worry too much and even if you do, dont show it. Act cool , be sportive. Good luck !

If it "wasn't supposed to get around but it has", then it sounds like it's the truth rather than a rumour.

IF it was a rumour or truth is immaterial. You want to know how to stop it. If it is damaging to you and causing other problems beside hurt feeling there are legal remedies.

Assuming that it isn't that kind of situation, just behave in a way that does'n't feed the rumour or create more. Don't show any interest or be overly defensive. Simply say, "It's not true" and carry on. Eventually when folks see that there is not truth to the rumour or they can't push your buttons, it will be dropped.

Well, the hard core of our actions. I HATE IT WHEN IT HAPPENS!! Best thing to do, #1. you did it, don't let the rumour upset you. #2, acknowledge that it did happen when approached, #3, show sincerity about it and share what you have learned about the decision you made. #4, take responsibility for what you did, and make restitution if at all possible asap. this will at least minimize the rumour (maybe not stop it all) and hope that someone else screws up bigger than you did so the attention will go to them so you can get on with your life. Hope you are ok. It's a cruel world sometimes.

You don't. It's just a rumor it will die in time. Until then you just say it's not true when it comes up. Even better is to start a good counter rumor that has your spin on what happened.

Respond with sarcasm. Example: "Is it true that you stole a computer from Best Buy?"
Your answer "sure, a lady's got to get her start in organized crime somehow" and roll your eyes.

Sarcasm always lends an air of ridiculousness to the accusation. People are going to believe what they want to anyway, and the best way to let it die down is to not take it seriously.

You "can't." However, you might minimize the rumors by not having a picture of yourself laying on a bed on Yahoo question & Answer. "Just a suggestion." After all, you "did" ask.

What you're trying to stop is not a "rumor". What you're trying to stop are facts circulating about you that you didn't want leaked out. Just wait it out... over time they will be forgotten.

Take a leaf out of posh spices book...bad publicity is publicity after all.
Just enjoy the limelight and tell people that the fact they are talking about you says more about their boring sad lives than it does about your exciting life!!!
Good luck xxx
