When we look at the history of humans, I doubt we are ready, or will ever be ready. There is a "need" in people to find, in a diety, answers to questions that have no answers, because there are no questions to ask. We impose answers on a god, or gods, that make us feel "comfortable." I have no problem with that. Whatever works for the individual is fine with me.
I've seen that many believe spirituality is a province of the religious. Not true.
I believe that as long as people require doctrines (of many religions) to give them their moral compass, they will. So much responsibility, & truth of SELF is stifled by punishment & reward., (in my humble opinion). "Free will" seems to be a choice of continuing to live as a born sinner, or to accept Jesus as the saviour, & repent. I am NOT bashing Christians, this is my view. I have friends who are Christian, Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics. We can discuss spirituality, but I never trespass on their "faith." Yet, I observe a tendency to put "God" on the shelf for Jesus which in itself is an interesting aspect of Christianty. In this section, which I very rarely enter, I also observe that many have no knowledge of the "borrowing" of Christianity from many, many beliefs. I think this is important, to understand that "one" concept is not carved in stone simply because we choose it. The "I stand on the side of God, (Jesus) but you don't."
Perhaps in a world of chaos, the patriarchal god serves many well. There have been, & are, many gods. Or, there are no gods. But as long as people believe that theirs is the only "true" god, we won't be ready for anything. So be it.
Science is closer to the answer of Genisis than most people will even consider. I truly find the conflict rather close minded on the part of the religious. If god is "love" then why has so much blood been shed in the name of him? Whatever god.
People aren't ready. I have no great expectations. C'est la vie.
No where in in your question did you refer to religion in the pejorative. Why was this assumption made?

Yes, it is. Very few people can exist without some kind of spiritual belief, unless they're really callous or cynical. I'm an atheist, in a sense that I cannot bring myself to literally believe in the doctrines of the church I was raised into. Spirituality and religion are not the same thing, those are two very different things indeed. Religion is not belief, it's a set of rules and institutions people have to conform to in order to prove their belief to others or just because they want to be a part of the group. Spirituality is something intangible, a belief in a higher meaning of this life, without all the trimmings like having to say a particular prayer in a particular time or having to complete a pilgrimage in order to prove the faith. So, I think that atheists are not people who don't know anything about spirituality. Some of them are just people that do not find it possible to conform with the rules.

I wish it were so. The way I read this is that it doesn't mean that you would have to necessarily drop your religion, just that you would use it as a basis to develop yourself spiritually beyond the confines of your given religion.
You would become appreciative, respectful and tolerant of other people and their spiritual beliefs. The key here is embracing tolerance and pure joy. My husband thinks that eventually all religions will merge. I don't think we're there yet. It will take a while longer, but let's work on it. OK?

NOT until science catches up with religious adepts - of the past - offering a more modern explanation of the interface between being and reality, mind/matter.
When we have a G.U.T. that explains how psychological 'unity' (unconflictedness) generates a field in the 'non-material' medium affecting matter at a distance AND how each person's 3-D reality holographically mirrors their embedded (programmed) beliefs about self and the world. Then everyone will 'get it' - what religion has been trying to communicate for centuries. Our thoughts DO matter. Thoughts are THINGS. HOW we think about others and the world IMPACTS reality.
Then we're home free!

This is what has happened in my life. It is enlightening and has brought much happiness.
Regarding the masses, nope, I do not think they are ready to move past religion as of yet. The structure of religion offers security and a routine that people require.
The rules of spirituality are for the individual to make for himself. The masses need direction for the most part and quite often specific orders to follow or they are lost.
Perhaps one day, this will change, in the far far future, in a distant galaxy!

Good God No !!!
At an individual level I've already moved beyond religion, by becoming a devout atheist. No, not an agnostic, their just fence sitters.
Now if I can convince the other 6 billion + people to agree with me we are at least heading towards a more peaceful world.

I think we are seeing the beginning of it, but we are a long way off. I personally believe that the coming generations will see the flaws in religion and focus on their own spirituality because these kids have come into the world with a higher level of consciousness. That is why it is so very important to nurture and care for the children in the world because they can really make the changes that humanity needs.

We are all searching for truth. This website is proof. We all have our own process and judging all of humanity is a religious idea in and of itself. There is no other way for us to go. All of history shows us that religion no matter how well intentioned, separates us and causes hate and war and judgement on our fellow human beings. It plays on fear & all claim to be the only way. They can't all be right. God is in ALL. We will shift. The question really is, How bad does it have to get? How many people have to die in the name of god, allah fill in the blank with whatever you claim allegiance to before we realize we are all one, from the same life force and wanting and needing the same things? We are all Spirit.

If i've understood you properly, then i think it'll be a long long time before humanity is ready.
But if you're interested in spirituality and religion and stuff, you could check out joyofsatan.org. Satanism isn't all about sacrificing goats and going on cult killing sprees or anything like that, just check out the website.
If any christians want to flame me, go ahead, i don't really care.

Some of us are. We are moving in that direction faster and faster. The Age of Pisces or religion is over. It is the Age of Aquarius or spirituality now. Those that cling to religion are lost.
