"They came with a Bible and their religion, stole our land, crushed our spirit, and now tell us we should be thankful to the Lord for being saved."

It is possible that "The Quotable Atheist" is a catchy title more than an accurate one. However, it includes quotes from hard-core Christians, too, like this one from George W. Bush: "I trust God speaks through me." This was quoted in response to John Adams saying: "In the formation of the American government . . . it will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of heaven." To which Huberman replied, "Never say never," and offered the quote from Bush.

It makes me sad, angry, and reinforces my contempt for religion. It also proves to me I made the right choice to leave it behind all those years ago.

there are others such as Chief Seattle, Chief Joseph, Tecumseh, Red Cloud, Sitting Bull and numerous others who have said the same basic thing. Very well said and hope when the time comes I can spend eternity on Turtle Island before the European " invasion " took place

Many Christians back then were extremely ignorant and overzealous (as can be evidenced by the Salem incident). Others used warped Bible teachings as an excuse for Manifest Destiny.

There is no way to measure how much I agree with the spirit of this quote. It reflects EXACTLY how I feel about "christians saving MY soul".

So, you all find the Native American Religion as being acceptable. Interesting. You approve of their spirits.
