as long as you don't still use drugs, theres no reason why you cannot become an air traffic controller. They only do a urine screen, so as long as you dont have anything in your system, what they dont know wont hurt em.

This isn't going to get me a best answer; but...If your stupid enough to smoke Marijuana, you're probably too stupid to be an Air Traffic Controller. Those guys spend YEARS and YEARS in college; if you think it's like Flight Simulator where you tell one plane to land and one to take off it's not.

As long as you have the mental capacity,and can pass a drug test and any
random' tests that will happen in that job your ok.All of the people in public transportation have to submit to random testing,not just a pre employment test. I dove a truck for 36 years and if i went in to work and they said,random time,i have to go take the test then.Also works with random drinking,they can order one any time they suspect you need it.....George

I should think so. So much time has passed that it should be gone from your system by now. And just why are you doing drugs anyway? Shame on you. Notice how you have to take into consideration your drug habits before you can do anything. Doesn't that say alot?

To answer your question you will have to look in FARs part 65 and it all depends on a few factors. Were you arrested and convicted? If not keep reading.

§ 65.12 Offenses involving alcohol or drugs.
(a) A conviction for the violation of any Federal or state statute relating to the growing, processing, manufacture, sale, disposition, possession, transportation, or importation of narcotic drugs, marihuana, or depressant or stimulant drugs or substances is grounds for—
(1) Denial of an application for any certificate or rating issued under this part for a period of up to 1 year after the date of final conviction; or
(2) Suspension or revocation of any certificate or rating issued under this part.
(b) The commission of an act prohibited by §91.19(a) of this chapter is grounds for—
(1) Denial of an application for a certificate or rating issued under this part for a period of up to 1 year after the date of that act; or
(2) Suspension or revocation of any certificate or rating issued under this part.
[Doc. No. 21956, 50 FR 15379, Apr. 17, 1985, as amended by Amdt. 65-34, 54 FR 34330, Aug. 18, 1989]

So the question is did you do one of the above? If not are you still going to smoke the weed? Weed will stay in your system for up to 6-months. And yes ATC performs drug testing for a good reason.

On the application form it will ask you if your have ever been convicted of a drug crime. If you answer untruthfully you will not be hired and if caught for making false statements it is a crime.

Be honest, get off the drugs, keep your month shut, keep out of trouble, be of good moral character; and apply. I have included some other regulations you should know about.

§ 65.23 Refusal to submit to a drug or alcohol test.
(a) General. This section applies to an individual who holds a certificate under this part and is subject to the types of testing required under appendix I to part 121 or appendix J to part 121 of this chapter.
(b) Refusal by the holder of a certificate issued under this part to take a drug test required under the provisions of appendix I to part 121 or an alcohol test required under the provisions of appendix J to part 121 is grounds for—
(1) Denial of an application for any certificate or rating issued under this part for a period of up to 1 year after the date of such refusal; and
(2) Suspension or revocation of any certificate or rating issued under this part.
[Amdt. 65-37, 59 FR 7389, Feb. 15, 1994; Docket No. FAA-2004-19835, Amdt. 65-47, 71 FR 35760, June 21, 2006]

§ 65.33 Eligibility requirements: General.
To be eligible for an air traffic control tower operator certificate a person must—
(a) Be at least 18 years of age;
(b) Be of good moral character;
(c) Be able to read, write, and understand the English language and speak it without accent or impediment of speech that would interfere with two-way radio conversation;

Some people think it is acceptable to take drugs and it is none of anyone’s business. These people are just stupid and flat wrong. We men don’t need drugs and ATC is no place for drugs. Would you want a doctor cutting you open on drugs don’t think so. So why would I want a ACT controller on drugs directing my aircraft along with several others at one time?

Want a couple of years then apply as planned.

Good luck with your future.
