This sounds crazy and I know there are studies to indicate that it doesn't work for everyone but I just went cold turkey and I didn't even have that bad of a craving for it. The trick was committing to quitting in the strongest way. I removed myself from situations where I smoked (hard to do if you like to go out and party with buddies who smoke) and I just made my mind say "no" right at the point where I was about to buy cigs. Once you block yourself a dozen times or so, then it's easy....you feel power over yourself. You are in control. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I gave up smoking 2 yrs ago and it was the hardest thing I have had to do. Don't stop straight away, cut down first cos you will feel better that way, maybe try some nicotine patches or gum? some people say it helps others not, but you can do it. Try and find something else to do when you have a craving, do a task that will keep your mind busy, eventually with a lot of will power it will work and you will be rid of cigarettes. Good Luck!

I would highly recommend Easyway, this has a 90% success rate for people quitting smoking, it works by counter-acting the mental addiction rather than working on the chemical addition as most methods do, as such this makes quitting smoking EASY - because trust me, QUITTING SMOKING IS EASY - Easyway also allows you to carry on smoking throughout the course.

http://www.allencarrseasyway.com

You can take the course through a clinic which will cost you on average £200 - this comes with a full money back guarantee if you don't quite smoking and you can pay once but go as often as you need to, alternatively you can use an Easyway video, PC software or a book, these are of course much cheaper but contain exactly the same information as you would get from a clinic - you can pick up a copy of an Easyway book from Amazon for a few pounds, books also give you 20% off clinic treatment - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0141026898/ref=sr_1_1/026-3398851-4227666?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190563391&sr=1-1 - that's only £3.80 for a method with a 90% chance of helping you quit smoking, without it being hard at all, what have you got to loose?!!

You don't need will-power at all, you don't need to punish yourself by going cold-turkey, you don't need to use methods like nicotine replacement, you don't need to risk using medication such as Zyban, you can just read a book and instantly stop never wanting to smoke again - seriously!

I've never known anyone using Easyway to find quitting smoking difficult nor have I known any of them to start smoking again, they don't feel deprived all the time like many ex-smokers do because it compleatly re-writes your ideas about smoking, rather than most methods that try to work on the chemical addiction.

Yes nicotine is highly addictive, but it's withdrawl symptoms are minimal, obviously then not the problem of smoking addiction thus why will-power or nicotine replacement methods fail so often, are very hard to keep to and often don't last. Easyway is very successful, very easy and lasts long-term.

Ther are no tricks to success. You really need to have willpower whichever aid you choose. I am sure you do not need me to tell you about those.
When I quit smoking two years ago, I stocked up on stuff to do. Cleaning stuff for the house, cross stitch kits, sweets, crisps and teabags. For the first few weeks I had the cleanest house in town.
The windows stay clean ( unlike when you smoke), so do the net curtains and the paintwork.
I found it helped to change things like the place I sat for drinking my tea/coffee - - then the association is lost. After eating I got up and started loading the dishwasher instead of lighting up.
I think if you really want to do this for YOU -- you can. After the first week, you will probably find that you need to change habits rather than thinking about the quit.
remember you are NOT a smoker trying to quit - - you are a non smoker.
Good luck with it, and I wish you every success.

Hi,
You are correct - there is no easy way to quit.
I smoked from the ages of 13 to 49, when I just said to myself "B^gger it, Bob - just don't smoke any more"
Well, it was frustrating for a week or so, but I just kept saying to myself "I don't smoke anymore !"
It seems to have worked, although I was at a do last night where they were smoking cigars. What a temptation !
Hold on, Bob, I thought. Nice smell, but you don't smoke anymore. I might like the smell of my after-shave, but I am not going to drink it.
It is difficult to give up, but I think that the key thought to hold in mind is simply "I don't smoke"

That makes it all the more easy than patches & pills.
It is all in the mind, of which you alone have total control of.

After a month or so, it all becomes easy.

All the best with it,
Bob

I had a difficult time quitting myself. Tried a number of times and failed. The last time, my doctor gave my wellbutrin, which helps in the cravings of cigarettes. It worked so well, I stopped taking the medication after a couple of weeks. One thing you really need to remember, when you get those nasty cravings and you want a cigarette really bad, the feeling will pass after about 30 seconds or so, atleast that was my experience. Most of it is mental. It can be done. Good luck, my friend!!!!!

I used patches but told myself i was only stopping for 1 day and would have a smoke tomorrow. Once i made it one day i did two, always reassuring myself i would have one the next. I made it that way. My mum had acupuncture and it worked for her. Good luck, just keep trying.

Try accupuncture.
My husband found it enormously beneficial. They take a full "history" and what other problems you may have i.e bad cough ect and they give you herbs ect to treat them aswell as the cravings ect.
It can be pricey but once you have completed the course of treatment thats you.. My husband has been smoke free for three years now, and he was a smoker for 20 odd years!

GOOD LUCK & STAY STRONG !
