I found the kitten in a tree, about a week ago. He is like 7 weeks old. He has warm milk regularly - but I cannot watch over the milk and over them when I am at work. The problem is that my cat's nipples became very red, swollen, and sore. I am panicking. Is there anything that would not harm any of them and that I could use on the cats' nipples to stop the small one's addiction?

Thanks!

The kitten "is" already eating kitten food and is drinking milk and water... but he is still obsessed with suckling. My worry is not him - my worry is my other cat. :)

I had the some problem when I brought one of my new kittens into my home! She was suclkling on the other, so what I did was give her a clean face cloth to suck on! She hasnt sucked on any of the other kittens body parts since. Now she is 5 months old and still sucks on her face cloth that we call her chewie.
I asked my vet how long will my kitten continue to do this and he told me that some kittens will eventually stop and others will continue this action throughout their life time.
Talk to your vet for more ideas! Im sure he or she with have some other and better Ideas for you.

If the other cat is letting the kitten do this, then don't worry about it. I posted a similiar question about a year ago (it get removed for some reason I've never worked out!) because my two kittens were still suckling their mum when they were six months old and I thought it was strange. But eventually their mum got sick of it and put a stop to it herslef. I'd say your cat will do the same with time. So don't panick.

He is suckling because he is so young and it is a comforting action for him. As long as your older cat doesn't object, I wouldn't worry.

You could try getting him a stuffed toy and when you find him nursing, distract him with the toy. I would try a toy larger than him, so he can snuggle to it for comfort and security. Get a toy that has a smooth cloth body with eyes embroidered on, not the plastic eyes, or anything else that could be chewed off and remove any loose ribbons. Something that can be tossed in the washer periodically.

Good Luck!

Purrs for you and all the kitties.

The other cat will put a stop to it herself when it becomes too painful - she'll stop letting your kitten suckle.
She must be happy with the arrangement at the moment, so I'd leave them to it - it will stop in a week or two.

your 7 week old kitten just needs kitten chow and WATER.... milk isn't necessary and cow's milk isn't always that great for a cat every day.

apparently your other cat has taken to "mothering" this new baby. you could probably call the vet to see what you can do about your poor cat's nipples? i'm not sure what to say, and not laughing at you, but this is a little comical... your POOR CAT though.. i feel badly for it --

I'm very suprised the older cat puts up with even being near the kitten. Our older cat hated my new kitten on sight.

Once your cat gets sore enough she will put an end to it herself. Start the little one on "kitty food".

You shouldn't stop the kitty.

ITs a natural thing, with cats
nature takes care of itself
