"Loving of enemies is another dogma of feigned morality, and has beside no meaning....Those who preach the doctrine of loving their enemies are in general the greatest prosecutors, and they act consistently by so doing; for the doctrine is hypocritical, and it is natural that hypocrisy should act the reverse of what it preaches." – Thomas Paine

"The Bible was established altogether by the sword, and that in the worst use of it -- not to terrify but to extirpate." --- Thomas Paine

"What is it the Bible teaches us? -- rape, cruelty, and murder." – Thomas Paine

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."
-Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason, 1794

Because they are taught that if someone doesn't beleive the same way they do, they are wrong and should be persecuted. Look at every Holy war that has ever been fought. Christians and Muslims have been at war since they were founded even though they worship the same God (the God of Abraham) one of the main differences are their prophets, and how they go about preaching. It is also easier to hate and eradicate the problem versus swallowing your pride and accepting each other for who they are and what they believe. Judge not lest ye be judged yourself.

Because they don't practice what they preach. It's not "teaching" people to get along if you just tell them to be nice to others, but then treat them like lesser people or outcasts because they don't share your beliefs.
