I've thought long and hard about this, and surely from basic logical reasons there can't just be nothing happening when we die. There has to be somewhere else we go when we die. That is the reason we are here in my opinion. We have to act the best we can while we here to get to the highest possible place after death on the Earth.

Imagine that when you die you cease to exist forever. That's the end of you. Never to be again. You loved being alive. Loved living your life. But when you die, thats it!!
Never ever to exist again. I find that a pretty scary prospect because i would really like to carry on in some way or another. But supposing we don't.
Is that what religion is based on? The morbid fear of ceasing to exist?
I personally can not imagine not being me forever and i find that disturbing. The only memory of me is what others remember. And when THEY'RE dead, thats it. Its just a bunch of photos.

As far as the dead person is concerned - yes. Everything is like being in a deep coma that will never ever end.
Meanwhile, life goes on for those remaining.
That's all there is to look forward to. No after-life, as that is a lie.
Use this one and only life that you will get to your best advantage and remember that YOU are in control. There is no divine plan for you or anyone else. You decide.

It isn't as simple as many answers you have received. Atheists believe that we have no soul. They also believe that there is no God. So yes for them life has no meaning beyond death.

For the Christian and many other religions, we believe that there is a soul and that the soul is immortal. So that even beyond death there is life. We believe that God created these souls and has a special place for each of us.

Some religions believe in reincarnation. For them they believe that our soul is reborn into a new life that can be either animal or human.

I can't speak to what Wiccans believe.

peace be upon you
who knows?
only the God know the future as only the God who make the future.
when the man die ,he considered to be finish the small part of his presence "his life" and begin the longest part of his life "his reckoning"
he will rewarded or punished according to his work in his life .and the life in the Hell or Heaven is permanent "forever" there is no death there.

Nope dying is just the beginning. When you die, your spirit lives on. You as a spirit will either go to heaven or hell dependent upon how you lived your life on earth as a servant of God or Satan.

No it does not; just as our lives didn't simply start at birth.

We made a decision in the great council of Heaven and didn't follow the armeis of hell who numbered one third present. As a consequence we got bodies, each in turn, at our allotted time for our brief period on earth.

When our number is up, to say there is nothing else would be a great injustice, especially if we had lived a good and fruitful life.

Oh, how I pity you no-hopers who mark this answer down!
Oh, ye of little faith!
