Jews cannot believe that Jesus was "god" and remain Jewish, because such a belief would be complete idolatry, and appears closer to the Greco-Roman pagan beliefs where gods took on human form and had relations with humans.
Jews do not need Christianity to explain their existence or their origin, but Christians cannot explain their existence without Judaism. Our Bible is a book of life not a guide to an afterlife.
To Jews, the belief that God would become human is the ultimate heresy!

I'm Jewish. We do not believe J*sus was a prophet. He is not the messiah, not a prophet, not a rabbi to us.
We split because during the translation of the Tanakh (Jewish Bible) to Greek, many, many words were changed to mean different things. Take the word "almah" for instance. This word was translated into Greek as virgin. Xians point to this as fortelling the coming of a messiah who will be born of a virgin (J*sus, supposedly). However in Hebrew, the word simply means "young woman" in which case every child on the world is born to an almah, so how is that a defining factor?
And then came J*sus, who did not fulfill any of the prophecies of the Jewish Bible and actually did things the Bible says a false messiah would do.
And then came the New Testament, which to Jews, is basically a forgery of people seeing the prophecies in the Tanakh, and writing down that J*sus fulfilled them to make it seem like he did.
So I guess that's how we split.
Xians are also not Jewish because Xianity is a completely different religion that Judaism--it's very principles and core beliefs are the opposite of each other. The only difference is NOT the belief in J*sus--there are many more important differences.
Peace

thank you for asking and attempting to understand. i'm jewish and dont have self belief that jesus became the messiah... in accordance to jews, the prophecies weren't fulfilled and in accordance to christians they have been... which the two proves or disproves that he became the messiah. i think that neither jews nor christians will ever recognize a hundred% easily the two way no count if he became or wasnt the messiah. i will declare this nonetheless. there is not any doubt that jesus became an incredibly holy guy, a non secular guy and a robust and pious jew. That being the case he could have by no ability ever ever ever have suggested " i'm the son of god". this could have been the main blasphemous ingredient ever!!! additionally you ought to keep in mind that the recent testomony and christianity relatively didnt ensue till 3 hundred years after Christs dying, so which you are able to ask your self how lots of this is what he preached and how lots of it became rewritten to serve the ruler of rome on the time who presented it formally to administration the a lot.

I'm Jewish and I don't think Jesus was a prophet. No other Jewish person I know thinks that either. The Jewish people as a whole have never thought that, Christians always have. That's where the split started.

Jesus was a prophet. But he was/is also Lord, Messiah, Christ, God, the Perfect. Jesus was only Jewish by nationality, not belief system. We are all pretty much Gentile by breed but Christian by religion. Just letting you know, we don't need an intermediary between us and God, such as a priest or father, we have the Holy Spirit doing that for us all the time.

Actually, we don't even believe that Jesus was a prophet.
"Prophecy can only exist in Israel when the land is inhabited by a majority of world Jewry. During the time of Ezra (circa 300 BCE), when the majority of Jews refused to move from Babylon to Israel, prophecy ended upon the death of the last prophets -- Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.
Jesus appeared on the scene approximately 350 years after prophecy had ended."

Jesus is actually completely irrelevant in Judaism, a historical figure that began a movement, but nothing more. A normal human being.
Now, we're all not Jewish because after his death, his disciples began the Christian religion. However, Christianity began with the conversions of Romans, not Jews. Christianity did begin as a sect of Judaism, but gained strenght not by Jewish conversion, but by the massive conversion of the Roman empire under Constantine.

LOL. I get a kick out of xians trying to answer for the jews. A jewish person would never say anything like the xians have posted. Many of the prophecies jesus allegedly fulfilled were prophecies from a bastardized OT, i.e., virgin birth, crucifiction. He also failed to fulfill the real prophecies. If you want an actual answer about jews, ask a jew.

Jesus was an orthodox Jew from the West Bank.
But Christianity was started long after the time of Jesus.

Read the Bible and ask for a study when a Witness knocks on your door and you can ask that question and you'd be surprised in what you hear and learn

Luke 4:43 But he said to them: “Also to other cities I must declare the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this I was sent forth.”
Isaiah 9:6, 7 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. To the abundance of the princely rule and to peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it by means of justice and by means of righteousness, from now on and to time indefinite. The very zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this.
Luke 1:31-33 and, look! you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you are to call his name Jesus. 32 This one will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; and Jehovah God will give him the throne of David his father, 33 and he will rule as king over the house of Jacob forever, and there will be no end of his kingdom.”
