I am going into the Nuclear program as of now. My ship date is February 6, 2008. Is there any way to get it moved up to an earlier date? Also, if not, would I be able (if I really wanted to) choose a different job where I could ship out earlier? At this point I don't really want to change jobs, but I can't stand having to wait four months before going to boot camp.

See! if you had joined the best(see USMC) either basic locations are in comfortable climates.

The answer is... Probably not. If you can ship out early, it will probably be because you're switching to a much crappier rate. My friend shipped out in August, he got an offer to ship out early if he'd go in as a medic. He politely declined.
Also, about the climate... The majority of Navy boot camp is inside... Although you will have to go shovel snow.
And I'm right there with you! I actually ship out two days before you do. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It is just a few months. Why not use the time to work out and get in the best shape of your life. Boot camp will be so much easier if you are in tip top shape. There will be lots of time to be a sailor. You are going into a great field and one available only to top candidates. Make the best of it.

You wont be able to. It has to do with your class date for the Nuc school. Dont change schools for an earlier ship date. You will get a crappy job an dbe very unhappy. Nuc school will get you alot more in the future. Enjoy and relax for your last few months of civvy life and spend that time enjoying your friends and family.

Go see your recruiter. They can change it.
Don't get all hung up on the Nukie boat you havent even been tested yet and the backround checks to see if you even qualify to be in the same county as a Nukie Boat.

If you can't stand having to wait around, why did you join the military? You're in for a surprise. However, you can start Basic Training early. Just start getting up at 5AM and running til sunset.

you can contact your recuriter, they can check to see if they have anything sooner....but honestly those 4 months are going to fly by..if you go any sooner, your going to freeze your buns off in illinois. marching in snow, wearing all that gear!! it's a pain in the ***....at least when you go in feb, you'll catch the end of winter and the beginning of spring. i say wait!!!
