There are french chat rooms that you can go to to speak with french speakers. This will allow you to immerse yourself in the language with people who actually speak it. Go to www.dogpile.com and type in french speaking chat room. See what happens.

You can read 'comic books' («les bandes dessinées»). These don't have a *!** in common with Batman, etc., they are often very nearly literature, but can be for young people or (mostly...) for adults. The quality is often very high, and the effect on the reader's language use can be considerable. It can be like watching movies with exceptionally well-writen scripts, except that the learner can speed up or slow down his rate of absorption in function of his abilities.
You can buy these things on line, but the other difference with American 'comix' is that they are VERY expensive. Let me know if you are interested, and I can mail you some from the store at the University where I teach (I can get some for free or almost nothing). You'll need a good dictionary, Le Petit Robert is the best. Others are available on line.

Yes I have tips for you.Oui j'ai des bouts pour toi. You should get the french cd's from your local library and listen to them.Vous devriez obtenir les CD français de votre bibliothèque locale et écouter eux. Also study for about an hour a day.En outre étude pendant environ une heure par heure. Well those are my tips :).Jaillissent ceux sont mes bouts :).

Going to the native-speaking community can quite often hinder your progess! Go to www.antimoon.com for some fantastic advice. The site is mainly for English learners, but the methods and advice are spot on!

I found the cd's very helpful that you get from the library.. I found a french friend and started conversing with her with everyday stuff.. it was kind of a game and it was great....and very helpful.....

read, read, read.... and do it ALOUD..... one day, you'll find that you have dreamed in French... at that point, you can say you have a good mastery of the language.....
oh, ain't the world of computers GRAND?... French chatrooms!!.... do they put up with those of us who are not yet fluent or do we get a lot of flak from them?... I may give that a try meself!!!.. thanks!
