Yes it is complete seperation from God in the afterlife for those who do not accept Jesus Christ to be their Savior. Jesus does not want anyone to go their but wants us all to be with Him someday that is why He made a way for us to be saved from the fire, where their will be weeping agnashing of teeth!!!

There is no proof for or against it being a place, I think many christians have a confused view of hell- misunderstanding the bible, and superstitions from the past. But I think hell is a state of being separated from God- and it is chosen by the person, not because God is mean and nasty and condenms people there!

Hell is man's grave.
In Revelation, it is called by its Greek name, Hades.
And it is not permanent.
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.

When death goes, so does the grave.

Fulfilling God's promise.

(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Millions of people do because we believe in Jesus Christ because He said in Matthew 10:28 "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
