Why is the word "repent" thought of as being sorry? Would Jesus have wasted his time asking people to be sorry? He was after a BIG transormation ("Be Perfect"..Sermon on the Mount), so the repent he was talking about had to TRANSFORM a person.

So why is the word "repent" thought of as being sorry? No use crying over spilt milk... being sorry doesn't transform a person.

Repentance ,like faith, is a sustained series of acts under the direction of grace. Feelings come and go and cannot be the basis of any virtue- as useful as they may be

Repentance means turning away from evil not regret or remorse but turning towards the Good. Repentence means directing one's life to God and His way of living.

Repentance, like faith ,cannot be sustained without hope and love and good works lived out by God's grace..

The problem arises from changes to the definition of the word repent.
The original Greek word was metanoia which means change of heart, change of mind, different course of action.
