On top of what's been said, a good trick is sometimes to get yourself away from other people and play some music.
Different people work with different types, eg: some like Opera, others just wanna rock out and some even need sadder tunes....oddly the latter used to work for me but I think that was to balance the outside world with how I was feeling.
Oh and if you ever find the person who first coined "big boys don't cry", please delete them....it's caused soooo much pain for so many people believing that!

Well if you are only sad when something bad happens, that's normal. We all go through sad things and you just have to remember the feeling won't last forever. But if you feel sad all the time and you view simple things as bad happenings then you might be depressed or have a mood disorder. And sometimes people just need to be sad for awhile until they figure out what's going on in their life. There are a lot of good suggestions here for getting your mind off of it. Try them, and hopefully they work.

Share your feelings with someone who cares about you. Bad things happen to all of us and we each deal with them in basically the same ways; cry (it's very therapeutic to cry), talk to someone as I said...or when you're feeling blue, get out in the sun and fade a little. Exercise...any exercise...will raise those endorphins and make your mood improve. I hope that whatever has made you sad this morning passes soon and that you have a wonderful day.

Call a friend.
Watch Comedy Central channel.
Pet your dog, if you have one.
Go to a good movie.

It sounds totally unappealing, but go exercise. A brisk 30-minute walk on a treadmill will raise your endorphin levels and make you feel better. (If you're more physically active, run for 30 minutes for an even better "high").

Start to praise Jesus who died to save us.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him. Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation, and qualifying us to Heaven. Just come to Jesus with genuine repentance and faith, and you will find peace, hope and meaning for your life. Heaven is wonderful beyond descriptions and forever without end. Never miss Heaven for anything of this troubled world. Life on earth is short and uncertain. Get right with God before it is too late. Best wishes for happiness and Heaven! (www.spiritlessons.com)
