Hi everybody I'm just wondering if you think a 19 year old earning $500 a week is alot for that age?
She complains its not enough, but back in the day I got half what she earns now.

My little sisters 19 years old and earns $500 a week.
She works a typical 9 to 5 job. She finished year 12, but hasn't been in college, tafe or university.

What is a typical wage for a 19-20 year old?

Should she be grateful for what she earns, or does she have a right to complain?

Any answers will be much appreciated!

As a big sister, you should be concerned about how much she spends, you have been in the work force long enough to know that there are things such as taxes that must be paid and other expenses in life. If you haven't been able to save much, maybe you can advise to her how she should save or invest her money and what NOT to spend it on.But the best advise is from someone who's been there done that. If she has no real problems with paying off things such as credit cards or bills, she should be happy.Let her know how good it is to have a GOOD credit rating as compared to a BAD credit rating. If she doesn't listen to you, well the old saying goes"you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink it" applies. You did your best to help your sister, you shouldn't have any guilty feeling about it.Even though she might complain about not making much, always be a big sister to help her out, family is like that.

I agree that at this age he is too old for her, that will change of course as she ages. The difference between 15 and 19 is great but that same age difference is not as big as the difference between say 20 and 24 or 28 and 32. Do you really think that you could forbid her to see him? She'd probably sneak around to see him behind your back. Right now you need to do some damage control. You are NO LONGER just her brother, you are now her FATHER also. Talk to both of them, privately or together as you feel best. Ask him what is so attractive about a 15 year old girl. Ask him what's wrong with him that he can't attract a woman his own age. Ask her if she were a 19 year old WOMAN would she want to date a 15 year old BOY? Then ask her what she thinks a grown MAN wants with a young girl when he can have a grown woman. If they insist on being together after the talk, then think about whether or not you want to raise both her and any child that she may have. you need to make sure that she is on birth control. Give her the facts that she needs to protect herself so she dosen't become a teenage mother. Good Luck, this will be excellent practice for when you become a dad and have to deal with teenagers. edit: I'm sorry, I skimmed over that part about his still being in HIGH SCHOOL! Does he have some sort of mental deficientcy? If he does then he's not a good BF prospect either...just eewwww all around.

It depends on what she does for a living. Jobs go by the pay scale that reflects responsibility. If she is an administrative assistant, no that is not too much money. The bottom line is age has nothing to do with her salary. It is whatever the industry pays for her particular job. Truth be told, she is probably set to make more because a beginning position that pays that much will pay more after she has been there for a while. I congratulate her on landing that job.

For a full time job, that is above normal and she should be very happy, especially considering she has no college degree.

While she has no right to complain, it's really none of your business. It's her life and people will have the attitude that they will. It's very difficult to change someone. So, just love her and maybe next time she says something, say "You know, you make quite alot for someone with no college education so I think you should be grateful." If she gets pissed, then I'd say "stop complaining to me if you don't want my opinion!"

She is making wonderful money. I make that in about two weeks and we have the same education level. Where does she work? :P

If she isn't happy with her wage tell her to look for a better paying job. You can't make her content with her job. That is her own problem. The most you could do is to ask her to reframe from complaining about it to you.

I'm sure that's way above the average most kids are making. She may feel that way because she knows what some of the other people in her company are making.

well, she should be grateful for earning such amount. she should not complain, instead she should be thankful for having a job. it's hard to find a job nowadays and that she should be thankful for.

p.s.
she should spend it wisely too.. :)

That's about normal, but it is not much. If she made $1000 a week, I'd say that is above average.
