It is an offence to drive or park a vehicle on the public highway without a current MOT.
The only exception is you may drive to a pre booked MOT appointment.
You may book your car in 1 month before the expiry date. This will give you a 13 month MOT.
Enjoy your holday.

Why not do it before you go? AN MOT can be done at any time, you don't have to wait until the deadline. Remember, the MOT is only actually legally valid on the day it was done. You can be stopped by the police the next day and be told your car is unroadworthy.

When you come back (I take it you are not taking the car with you) the car should only be driven to a pre-booked MOT test

It's fine as long as you don't drive without MOT, I'm also not sure that it's o.k. to drive it to get it MOT'd as one answer said. That's someone you ought to check on with the garage, they would know, I'd definitely check the legality of that as it would be sod's law for you to get stopped by the police on the way to the garage.

It no problem if you are not using the car on the road.
You can even legaly drive to the MOT place without MOT so long as you prebook in.

If you want to you can take it to your usual MOT station and take your old mot certificate and they will post date the new mot certificate from when the old one finishes. That way you will have no hassle when you come back from holiday...Hope you have a nice holiday......

ok, so you are going on holiday in your car, with an MOT thats about to expire...
the only way you can use it on the public road, is if its BOOKED in for an MOT.. (phone halfords)
there is NO limitation on how far you can drive the car, buy it in Aberdeen and MOT it in Truro, and youre perfectly legal to do so...
