(a million) If the human race became propagated from a single source (that's real in the two an evolutionary attitude of the 1st hominid and a biblical attitude of Adam & Eve), then such heavily appropriate procreations have been unavoidable. The call for for some different way of having the race started is an unreasonable expectation. The degradation of the human genome does no longer have been an identical back then as right this moment with each and all of the outcomes of ailment, radiation, mutation, etc. (2) The theory of incest must be understood greater accurately. in the start the sin of incest became related with sexual relationships between mum and dad and young ones. basically in a while became the theory of incest prolonged to sibling relationships. by ability of Moses’ time there have been regulations governing all forms of incest. previous to this, incest in many of the types later proscribed weren't theory to be incorrect. In Egypt, the habitual marriage of brothers and sisters between the Pharaohs each and each of ways as much as the 2d century made the Mosaic regulation each and all of the greater an intensive injury with their Egyptian previous. EDIT: to MonaLisa Overdrive AM VT wannabe - there is not any want for the writers to have an information of DNA. there are various stuff God prophetically inspired them to precise that became forward of their time or skill to understand the motives why. Even right this moment we are nonetheless gaining know-how of scientific motives for historic know-how. additionally, Genesis 5:4 reads - "After Seth became born, Adam had different little infants"

Creationalists assume that there were no other people on earth back then. But some Christians believe that the "days" of creation were not 24 hr days and that the "generations of the creation of the heavens and earth" spoken of in Gen. chapter 2 refer to the fact that God probably created every thing through evolution, things that come from other things. If you view the Adam and Eve story as being the creation of the first souls rather than the first bodies then the story fits nicely with the fossil evidence. Now if there were other people around with them, then there was no incest. It explains where Cain's wife came from and also what people he was afraid would kill him after God banished him to the land of Nod. Good and interesting question. God bless you on your quest for truth.

A born again Christian (not creationalist)

There are many things listed in the Bible as sinful but the people do it nonetheless. What do you blame though - the law, or the people?

And read the scriptures. It mentions by name three of Adam's sons - Cain, Abel and Seth. It also says that Adam fathered many sons and daughters, it just does not list them all.

I don't know what incest is... however, Cain may have had sisters that weren't mention (people were at least somewhat sexist in almost every culture until recently).
Edit: Maybe I'm wrong because the person above me has a better answer.

The law of Moses came about only after 26 generations of humans existed (15 after Noah) and such a rule was practicable. Until that time, G-d did not prohibit it, and there is nothing intrinsically wrong with anything. It only becomes wrong after G-d's command that it be prohibited.

Also, one reason for the prohibition is that it leads to a breakdown of moral fiber. In the case you mention, there was no other way of marrying, and so, there was nothing perverse or unusual about taking a sister.

The Bible says that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters. Genesis 5:4 says "And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters."

Scientists agree that, looking at the laws of genealogy, we all came from one human pair. So, wether you believe man was created or evolved, sexual relations must have occured somewhere between a brother and sister or cousins.

Sometime after the Flood, God gave laws to the Isrealites and incest was forbidden. This is because man was so far removed from Edenic perfection that such a relationship could have adverse affects on any children born from it.

Cain would have married his sister, or perhaps a cousin, but this would not have been classed as incest because it would not have caused any ill-effects for their children. It was also necessary to kick-start the human race.

Incidentally, some people read into the Bible that Cain's wife came from the Land of Fugitiveness (Land of Nod) and assume that other people were created as well as Adam and Eve. However, the Bible merely says that Cain went to the Land of Fugitiveness and while there his wife gave birth to Enoch. It in no way implies that he met her there.

Genesis 4:16 says that Cain "took up residence in the land of Fugitiveness to the east of Eden." Then verse 17 says: "Afterward Cain had intercourse with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." It does not say that Cain left for the land of Fugitiveness alone and that he got married after he got there.

If there were multiple creations of humans and only Adam and Eve sinned, then only Adam and Eve would have been punished. The only mention of death in Eden was if God was disobeyed. Had others been created and if they did not sin, then they would still be here on earth.

Acts 17:26 says: "And he made out of one man every nation of men, to dwell upon the entire surface of the earth."

It is true that in Genesis chapter 19 the historical facts are conveyed without any comment respecting God’s approval or disapproval of Lot’s twice committing incest in an intoxicated state. But in later portions of the Bible record, God’s condemnation of drunkenness is clearly stated again and again. (Proverbs 20:1; 23:20, 21, 29-35; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10) Likewise, in his Law to Israel, God later made clear his prohibition of incest, saying: “You people must not come near, any man of you, to any close fleshly relative of his to lay bare nakedness. . . . The nakedness of your father and the nakedness of your mother you must not lay bare.” (Leviticus 18:6, 7) The penalty for violating the law on incest was death. (Leviticus 18:29) While Lot and his daughters were not under the Law, they were, nevertheless, aware of the impropriety of having relations with their own father, as shown by the fact that they first got him intoxicated.

However, Lot is called a righteous man at 2 Peter 2:8. This is not because God approved of his getting drunk, or because God approved of incest. God did not approve such conduct. But it should be noted that there is nothing in the record to indicate that Lot was a habitual drunkard, nor was he habitually involved in acts of incest. His reputation was that of a “righteous man,” and this reputation he had with God, who examines the heart. Lot deplored the “lawless deeds” of the people of Sodom. Lot must also have grieved over the wrong conduct in which he himself got involved.

The inclusion of the information about Lot and his daughters in the Scriptural record should really help us to appreciate that the Bible is a book of truth. Even when persons who were known as God’s servants became involved in improper acts, the Bible does not conceal this.

adam and eve became something of a "center of attention" because they were the ones who committed the sin. but it's not just them who were there, there were also others who were not centered upon, others who were created at the same time adam and eve were created.

so no, there was no incest.
