I have worked for the Home Office for nearly three years, and i have seen alot of people coming into this country. "How can we tell who we are letting into this country"? Don't you think we should shut the borders, and say "No more"! "Why don't the government say no to letting all these people coming into this country. I have lived in this country all my life, and the changes have gone out of control with so called Immigration. I said to some friends i know a few years ago England is England no more. "What do you think"?

The Uk is bound by the laws of the EEC stating that people from other member states should have free passage over the borders. Our Embassies in countries who are not EEC members are governed by the laws of the UK government.Providing a person submits documents on the guidlines suggested they do not have a choice but to give them the relevant Visa.Until the Laws are modified to meet all criteria Yes illegals will keep flooding into the Uk and getting lost in the system. The cultures in other countries are not remotly same as ours in being that its everyone for himself. This does include Crime,Prostitution and a Mafia style approach in extracting money from whoever they can.The problem is totally out of control and little we the ordinary people can do about it.I agree with your comments fully and the country is heading for anarchy. It is tiring to listen to people putting blame on our Home Office and our Embassies abroad they all do an excellent job and have to tolerete daily abuse. As for you you have to follow the guidlines put down by the government in the position you are in.Eastern Europe is our biggest concern and those borders should be closed at once.

I used to voice the very same opinions as yourselves but I always ended up in trouble for it! We either talk things through like sensible adults or keep our noses out until we grow up and mature enough. Some hotheads get rabid if opposed by opinion and I think they should see a shrink or be detained indefinitely in a straight jacket.

No,things are out of proportion now and I think Gordon Browne will go to the country shortly so we shall see if public opinion is pro or anti immigration. Trouble is,the Asian vote is massive, like it is here in Blackburn Lancashire, and the local council has always returned a Labour council which is pro immigration.

The most worrying factor about future economical issues shows a trend moving towards a recession far worse than what the Tories lumbered us with. Record house repossessions, sky high unemployment and millions of immigrants adding to the social bill. Where is all the money going to come from to support all these extra bods?

Somehow it will be YOU who will be paying. When you have been out of work for a long while and cannot do things you used to do,then be grateful that your foreign cousins will be able to afford to get married while you will get segs on your backside waiting until a time comes when you might be able to buy a shed at the bottom of the garden.

We have seen how the problems with communism brought down the great soviet union, maybe we are about to see how the problems with capitalism will bring down the great USA.
Capitalism creates a dog eat dog society, where the strong flourish and the weak perish. Capitalism breeds greed and a succeed at all cost mentally. ("The LOVE of money is the root of all evil") what we love we put above all else. Unfortunately many of our politician have put money above country and above "we the people". The Russian had a saying " One thing you can be sure of,the capitalist will sell you the rope that you hang him with" So whatever is profitable for the rich and powerful will be allowed....They say its about private ownership and individual rights, yet in truth we own nothing not even ourselves we are all property of the state. The American dream is an illusion , In truth its" the American illusion" Yet I truly love America.Because even with all its problems its still the best thing we have going as far as the powers that be. There is hope for America because Christianity is alive and well and I mean true Christianity not the hypocrites who use Christianity in a twisted way to justify their hatred for others..To sum it up, immigration, legal or illegal if its profitable for the rich and powerful at will be allowed and it clear that illegal immigration is the more profitable since thay are considering allowing illegals to leapfrog over those who have been abiding by the law and waiting in line to receive their legal citzenship...

As far as I'm concerned there's too many immigrants allowed without proper concern shown why they are allowed, there's too many people now cadging on the state once here, and not enough people speaking our language. If i was to go further i could be done for racism so whats the use in voicing your own opinions when the Government make sure you can't, even if you mean no harm

I think the powers that be have no common sense. Immigration needs control .Our jails are full ,I don't think the majority are British. So many are bringing in the drugs ,guns and knifes .Claiming benefits for family back home .
It`s fine , if it is well balanced, they have jobs and are going to be good citizens. We should adopted the same rules as Australia for entry. Our government should simulate the Singaporean government that would clean the place up. (BIG STYLE.)
I have polish neighbours , who repeatedly throw rubbish from their bedroom windows into my garden. I'm often picking up polish letters they have discarded over into my garden

I just saw a tv program presented by Nicky campbell with a load of pro immigration liberals who opinions were simply dangerously idealistic. They were all contradicting themselves by saying we should repsect other religions and cultures but then they say they keep the identity of the country they have come from - well which is it?

There has always been immigration and all countries are made up with all manner of immigration but i feel with the dawn of such a massive global mass media people are hearing about places that even 50 years ago they would not of, eg Britain.

Im not going to preach about them stealing our jobs (eg polish) becuase we have to many of our own scumbags that need a good kick back into work, the welfare system has caused that, but thats another subject altogether.

People keep telling us we should be multi- cultural and my answer is why? I ahve travelled extensively and been to dozens of countries throughout the world and such short sharp immigration has caused serious problems. I repsect the cultures and beliefs of all coutries regardless how absurd, but please repsect ours - you want to play on our pitch, you play by our rules. Which means you leave the culture of your place of origin there, dont bring it with you.

This is not racism or a right wing opinion - its common sense. We shouldnt have to be multicultural, if we do, then shouldnt everyone else. Lets go over to saudi arabia with a load of chip shops, cockney market stall traders, churches and Chavs in Novas - do you think they would object, yes they would, and rightly so!

Thomas m: i understand where you are coming from but the NHS is a massive drain on our economy with thousands of people doing jobs that are not needed, it is the third largest employer in the world. I am not talking about just throwing out everyone with a darker shade of skin than me. But when we are told by the government that 12,000 polish immigrants would enter the UK each year (when they joined the EU in 2004) and then we find the figure is closer to 600,000 alarm bells start ringing. Most pro immigration people love to assume that anyone questioning immigration is an out and out racist, hate to dissapoint you but it isn't so. It is merely concern.

Further note to Thomas m: Im not sure i agree about the statement that not much money is spent on the NHS. Its the third largest employer in the world, you cant tell me that its not costing us that much. are we really that ill in the uk.
I agree with the british going to parts of spain and not intergrating, i cant stand that! When i travel i hate seeing an english football shirt! aaaaaahhhhhh!!! But i cant see the poles going back to poland after a few years. Maybe they should be on a limited visa like the aussies. And what about the rumours of bringing north african countries into the EU. I suppose a couple of million african immigrants is going to do us good as well. Those algerians are an honest bunch!!!!
Im on the verge of just giving up and leaving for canada or somewhere. Ill pop back in a few years when everything is collapsing! Just so i can say...i told you so.

Put the iron curtain back up, blow up the tunnel and turn all the roadsigns round at Heathrow and Gatwick taking immigrants on a circular tour back to the airport.

Of course 21c England is not 19c or Tudor England. More Asians and Africans settled in UK in 20c and much less East Europeans came in the last 20 yrs. The asker should make his mind if he really thinks the white , skilled and educated Easteuropeans are worse immigrants in the long run than A&As from the once-upon-a time British Commonwealth. Or he is just jelous and can't compete with the realities or them!

this sounds paranoid but the more I think about it this is concerted effort by the communist bloc counties to bring america down and its working. americans really do not have a party that is looking out for their rights. Bush has bungled the Iraiq mess by attempting to be a nation builder. we should have kicked the Iraq's butt and got out of dodge. The illegal mexican invasion is of more concern at this point.

If you believe in preserving England as England, does that mean you want to keep the Scots in Scotland and the Welsh in Wales?

From what I've seen, the Polish immigrants are revitalising city centres and some of the outer neighborhoods, and providing labor in key shortage areas. The NHS would be a disaster without all the foreign doctors and nurses, although these are mostly Asian or South African and do require work permits. The university science and engineering departments would also be running quite short of lecturers without foreigners. You could find British people for those jobs, probably, but they wouldn't be as good.

As for crime, I think the dominant source of crime in Britain are the British yobs in track suits, not foreigners.

Perhaps if you give some specific statements about what is worse in England because of immigrants, that would help me understand your position. Right now, you seem to me to be someone who just doesn't like foreign people.

REPLY to trigga1uk:
I am sure there are people in the NHS who are doing unnecessary jobs. I don't think it's a drain on the economy, in the sense that the British spend less money on health care than just about any industrialised nation. The quality of care is a bit lower than elsewhere, as well, but the value for money is in line with other countries. For the most part, the immigrants make this situation better - they are providing people doing the essential jobs.

The immigrants (and especially the Polish) are generally arriving at an age where they are young, but already educated as much as they ever will be. This means that some other country has paid for their education, but Britain will get their taxes when they're working. I would guess that a lot of the Polish will leave after a few years of saving up some money. This means that they are unlikely ever to make much use of the NHS, and won't get a British pension.

And as for British exporting their culture - are you aware of what goes on in Spain? The British aren't exporting their culture to the same places where the immigrants are coming from but there are more British abroad than immigrants in Britain, and the British are actually notorious for not integrating into their new cultures when they move abroad.

I think people coming into a new country should integrate, rather than assimilate. They need to respect certain laws and norms for behaviour in their new countries, but if they want to retain certain customs that either aren't anyone else's business, or which can actually enrich the new country in some way, they should feel welcome to do so.

For example, I think one would actually have to be a racist to think that curry houses are bad for Britain. If you simply don't like Indian food, that's a personal choice of yours, and you're welcome to it. If you actually object to other people eating it, then there is something wrong with you. On the other hand, if immigrants retain attitudes that women shouldn't be allowed to vote or drive or attend school, or that gays should be beaten in the streets, or other such attitudes, that is a problem.
