would you do it?

people, how do you know God wouldn't ask that? it's God, for crying out loud. he can do whatever he wants. maybe that one person's death would result in another person's life.. or whatever. my point being just because you don't agree with it doesn't automatically mean it's not God's will.. your will and God's will is not the same thing. great answers so far though, very interesting :)

God would not, but God's will is not to be argued with, if some being of light appeared on earth and said Kill he would not be from God but from evil.

If I had a way of knowing that it was G-d, not just the voices in my head, or some cleric with an agenda, YES.

This question seems to assume there is something morally or ethically wrong with killing. There is, but only tangentially.

G-d wrote, "Thou shalt not kill," and therefore it is wrong. That has filtered down to us as humans, and we feel something wrong about it. If G-d now gave a command to kill a certain person, it would supersede "Thou shalt not" and there would not only be nothing wrong with it, but it would be a good thing.

Abraham was commanded to kill Isaac, (Ishmael if you're Muslim) and was praised for his willingness to do it.

Most of our hesitancy to kill comes because we have been trained to "play nice." What if we had a chance to go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler in 1938, or Osama bin Laden before 9/11? Would our feelings change? Likely they would, because we would reason that this was a positive thing to do, to save lives.

By the same token, if G-d were to tell us to kill, we would be carrying out His will, which is ultimate good.

Short answer - Yes, I would.

Interesting question. And if you read the Bible or the Qur'an you will find that this has actually happened in the past. Ibrahim (Abraham), peace upon him, was asked to do exactly that in the sacrificing of his son. Being a willing servant he prepared to do exactly that and it was not until the knife was on the downswing that he was stopped.

His willingness to follow God's instructions proved his belief and submission to God's will.

Of course Ibrahim (puh) was a prophet so there is a difference between him and ordinary people such as ourselves. I would be very wary about "hearing" God telling me or anyone to kill another person at this point.

Peace and Blessings,

Imam Salim

This question is indicative of your wandering thoughts and imagination; but very interesting too. If that question is asked to me I will kneel before him and give a gentle reply like this without questioning His thinking and so many other issues involved in it as the origin of the question is attributed to God.

"Dear God, please do not ask me to do this sinful job. I believe that you are capable to do it Yourself and I do not want to excel you on doing a tainted task and prove others that I am one up above you doing what you are unable to do. Further, God, you are insulated against criminal action in this just world, while I am not. I do not want to languish in Jail for years or getting executed while You are loved and praised for Your Love for your Godly qualities. Incidentally may I ask you, 'Are you Bin Laden or Bush in God's garb? If you are really God why test me the same way Satan had done on your son Jesus. You too have changed a lot to suit the current trend. Very bad indeed. Correct yourself please"

If it doesn't fit the character of Christ, it didn't come from God.
Remember, God said that vengeance belongs to Him...which is just as well, since He's the only one Who can see what is in a person's heart.
Let's just love one another, as Jesus commanded us to, and let God be God, what do you say?

If God asked me to kill someone, and I could be sure it was absolutely God asking me to do so, then yes.

He asked the same of Abraham, more over, He asked Abraham to kill his ONLY BEGOTTON SON, but did not allow it to be followed through, letting Abraham kill a ram instead.

I know that God would never actually ask any man, and never actually has asked any man, to kill anyone else. This is why I would do so, because I know that God would never let it happen even if He asked me to do so.

Note: I just noticed that God had asked Abraham to do that which He Himself was to do when Jesus was killed on the Cross... WOW!
