to abort the child she is carrying, but not the right to get paid to have sex, ride on a motorcycle without a helmut, or ride in a car without a seatbelt, etc? There are so many laws restricting what we can and cannot do with our bodies...what is it about this particular right, why is this right so much more important than the others? Why is so much money spent to protect it over all the other rights that are being denied to us? I know i should be in abortion, but were the only ones alive, plus both sides over there scare me! Would love to hear from ALL sides.

Lou, I get what youre saying about the big picture, but why arent we fighting for ALL rights over our body, for example to prostitute oneself? That is a right that has been taken away from us, Im just wondering why we only fight for the body right of abortion.

I think you may have missed the big picture.
Once the right for a woman to have the say over her own body is taken away, then we really do have no rights. It is her body, her decision, her right.
This choice is hers alone, the decision is not to be made by Politicians, Churches or anyone for that fact.
Even if it is against God's word, if she is not religious what does God have to do with it. If she is religious what does God's, yours or my opinion have to do with it.
What happens next, Doctors refuse treatment because it goes against God.
There is more at stake than just a simple choice.
*edit
I personally have no problems with prostitution, as long as it is regulated. So that it protects all involved from disease and abuse.
But I think that some fights are more important than others, because of the future unforeseen ramifications, abortion is one such fight that needs to be won.

Good question. I don't know that there is a good answer beyond the fact that
Politics Sux!
As to abortion issues, this has been debated to the point it is hard to come up with more arguments. My personal feeling is that men should never have a say in abortion; as it is not they who have to live with the consequences (with the one exception, if it is his child he should at least be consulted; but the final decision should be her's). The issue of prostitution is about health issues, knowing that a baby really is your's (an issue that is important, since it is usually the man who has to support it), and keeping men from denying thier 'services' to thier spouce. On the other side of that, why should I be working hard to support a woman while other men are getting the benefit of her 'services'? If someone else is enjoying your body, then let them support you. And if it's not my baby, then let the real daddy support it. And if you bring me home a disease; especially one that debillitates and kills.... Well, you get the drift of this.
Another way to look at this is thus:
Women, if your man went out and (assuming he could) sold his body for pay, how would you feel? Would this be OK with you? To know that he's out screwing other women? To know that he might bring you home a nasty disease? And how would you feel having to raise any children that come from these unions? Can you honestly say, it's his choice in a free society? Somehow, I think not. I realise there are a lot of situations that are patently unfair, and nearly unconstitutional. But on the issue of prostitution, I am against it, unless both men and women are allowed to do it. If it were such that we all could do any ol' thing we pleased, and there were no laws to control certain behavior, women would still be dragged off by men to do whatever they pleased to them, without regard to the woman's intentions (what we're progressively working to fix in 'modern' times). Total anarchy is a chaotic situation in which nobody 'wins'.

The day that strangers (especially fundie, anti-choice men) are given the right to decide whether or not a woman carries a child to term is the day we, as women, are reduced to nothing more than an "incubator," a life support system for some man's fetus, without worth or rights over the fetus's or the wishes of the man or strangers.
There are other issues but this one should be important enough.

abortions don't involve children. they involve embryos or feoti. the reason we have laws regarding prostitution, helmets, seatbelts, ect, is because these things affect more than just the person participating. if a prostitute has an STD and doesn't know it, she's putting the entire community she's in at risk. if someone is riding without a helmet, if they were to get in an accident, their carelessness affects their entire family. abortion affects ONLY the woman involved and anyone she permits to be involved.

I'm with you on the prostitution thing. As long as everyone involved is consenting, then the government should stay out of it.
As for the seat-belt/helmet thing, I agree in principle that if you are that willfully stupid and willing to accept the consequences, then by all means go ahead. On the other hand if it goes wrong and you're in an accident, it's not just you that pays the price--financially, emotionally and otherwise. In other words it's not just your body that is in question.

Many laws are designed to spare the innocent from viewing the objectionable, like bodies impaled on steering wheels or sliced up because they continue moving when the vehicle abruptly stops. Seatbelts work! Abortion is objectionable to many because its killing, but we are no longer the only ones alive, there are over six billion people alive. You fear war? Find God and trust in him.

I don't get it either. Come to think of it both side are scary. People are scary and become zombie fanatics and hooked on one ideal and everything else is no existent. People can be very one sided. Open your eyes see everything with and open mind and heart. Do not be so harsh to judge. Do what you want. Is it right is wrong? it doesn't matter what I think I am not the one to judge you all in the end. No human has a right to I think.

Well my mother almost aborted me except my grandmother gave her some advice that influenced my mother to change her mind, but I'm not angry that my mother nearly decided not to have me, my mother's father chose his military career over his marriage to my grandmother lving her w/ 3 children to raise on her own so I can understand why she would be tempted, plus my parents relationship wasn't the greatest, she'd have saved herself a lot of trouble.
I think it's such a big issue because men still make decisions in society & there will always be a group of men trying to control women, unfortunately many of them happen to be in govt. The bottom line is it's another way to control women, a form of oppression telling us what we can & cannot do w/ our bodies. they should direct that same energy to get men to be more responsible in their sexual relationships w/ women, maybe even tell them they don't have to sleep w/ every woman they meet. I know some men who have several children sometimes none of them having the same mother.

I agree with you!....BUT....These laws are made to protect you.
On the other end...The Laws about abortion???..look at it this way. You have experienced the ups and downs of this world and you know no matter how hard you try..things still remain the same...NOW!...You will say "EXACTLY"..that's why I am for abortion!
Have you ever thought of the life of that innocent baby trying so hard to survive because of your negligence?...Have you ever thought of stories that made you cry simply because this innocent child has no place to call home?..or A child clinging on to a life - machine seeking a mum or dad for their love to nurture her?...and yet we have the heart to keep a pet in our own homes!
God gave you the gift to reproduce and nurture your young untill this child has something to look foward to...whereas you have given up on this world!....
Give her a chance...She will prove you wrong and bring forth that smile upon your face when you are sad and... 'sunshine' on your doorstep every morning!!

If God wanted women to prostitute themselves he would have given them free will and a vagina.........wait.
Seriously, other than moral implications, I don't really see why prostitution should be illegal.
I say let people not wear helmets and seat belts if you don't want to, their numbers will weed themselves down.
I remain pro-choice for the avenue of excessive birth defects and rape related pregnancy. I am fully against abortion as a means of birth control for people that "don't feel they are ready to be parents" or "accidentally got pregnant", that is why we have adoption.
