i dont even trust my real life "buddies"

When I first started out chatting all those years ago (LOL) no, I didn't trust them. I knew better. But then I made these two friends and we've been online only friends for the past 8 almost 9 years (wow) and I trusted them both with everything. I even met one of them when I had flown to her part of the country for another reason.

Then I found out one of my friends had been lying to me about her name and age since the day I met her. She told me that at first she tells everyone a different name that isnot her own to protect herself. I totally understood that point but seriously, after 7 years she didn't think I could be trusted when she knew some of my deepest darkest secrets?

So now, I have a hard time trusting in either of them, especially her. : (

Not really. I think it's necessary to spend some time in-person with someone before you can trust them to a significant degree.

One reason for this is that the slower pace of online conversations (compared to verbal communication) allows people to polish their responses, instead of always having a sincere "gut" reaction. Often people want to put their best foot forward.

And the anonymity of online conversation probably makes a small percentage of people who have less-than-wholesome motives more prone to not telling the whole truth, etc. I would imagine/hope that this second statement would not apply to most people, though.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

The only ''on-line'' buddies I trust are they ones I already know from before and we've just exchanged Messanger ID's and E-mail Addresses ( this includes family too )

Trust is by degree, so I guess I do "somewhat" trust a
few of my online contacts. But "buddies" is a little too strong.

There is trust an absolute trust.
I have several like yourself that are high up in the degree I trust them, and will chat with by the email system that is here.
One however I share regular email with, as we share things, like attachments and that sort of thing.
We also talk about things in our daily lives, comparing the difference in things there in the US and here in NZ.

I've known several for nearly ten years now. I trust them more than I trust many of my real-world friends.

Some, and we're very careful and controlled in our dealings with one another. None of us are dealing with sex or money issues, which helps; but we still don't divulge addresses, SSI or phone numbers.

If there's money or sex involved, they're not buddies. Just click NO.

What does it matter whether u trust them or not? who are they gonna tell your secrets to? i really dont care if some random online person would tell all their friends about me and my messed up life. they don't know me or anyone else that i know.
