Why take it off? cruise control lets you set the speed and keep it there without your foot on the gas pedal. No problems with the drivability of the car or emmissions from your car.

Okay, bottom line answer, you can remove the cruise control without harming the throttle control. Two things to remember are these: First, if the cruise control is vacuum operated, which I doubt, you must plug the vacuum port that operates it. In early models, it worked just like the temperature controls. Vacuum modules held the speed according to the position of the diaphram. The vacuum is decreased the faster you go. Just a note to those of you out there that I may have confused: At higher rpm's vacuum decreases because the valves pull more through an effect called the venturi effect. Second, if the cruise control is electrical, you won't have a problem on an early model vehicle. In late model cars, the cruise control actually goes through the ecm (computer) in your vehicle. This presents a problem when it is disconnected because the drop in voltage and missing telemetry signal cause the computer to malfunction and will cause an engine light alert. Hope this clears it up for you. You could most certainly fix the c.c. but it sounds like maybe you are racing your vehicle and cruise control has nothing to do with that...........

Just unplug the cruse servo and remove the throttle cable now unbolt the servo and place it in a box for futrue car owner. While there you will probably find the split vacuum hose keeping it from setting.
