Well, I hate to sound like an "oldster", but when I was a teenager, we all had a thing called "driver's education" in school. Now that I'm 50 and have a 15 year old daughter I have to teach myself because the schools can't afford to have this program anymore, I find ....gee this is HARD, not to mention tough on the old nerves. I had to sign a paper "promising" that I would give her at least 40 hours of driving time before her 16th birthday...we have done that, but think about all the kids who's parent DON'T. scary

I too struggle with roadrage. I try to remeber that the roads were here long before I was and everyone pays taxes to maintain it.
Also everyone is not as sharp as you may be. Some people cant see well. Others have been in awful accidents and are scared to drive.
I learned, after 11 tears of driving , that my roadrage was caused by my own selfishness.
Back off a little even if you have to go slower. You might find yourself a better driver.
Anyone can drive fast. It takes a skilled driver to dive safe!

If you put the minimum age to obtain a license up to, say, 20, then people will whine about the newbie 20-year-olds on the road, where if you leave it at 16 (in my area), by 20 you'll have had more experience, and you'll be a better driver.
Personally I think the state gives out licenses for the money.

Raising the driving age would be a really bad idea. People should start learning to drive at as early an age as possible. So they can get as much experience as possible, under parental supervision. Good driving skills come from experience and knowledge. Not from maturity. You can be mature, and still be a crap driver.
Raising the driving age to 18 would just throw a lot of inexperienced adult drivers on the road. Which would be very counter-productive to improving driving skills in society.

Raising the age to get a driver's license is not the cure. First we need better driver's education for young kids. Second we need to make it harder to get a driver's license at all. Third there should be a refresher course for people every few years to add to the knowledge we've accumulated and to correct the bad habits we developed. And instead of being able to automatically renew your license we should be required to take another road test. None of this will ever be adopted of course.

I deliver pizzas for a living, and many people do not know that we are in the 10 most dangerous professions in the United States, because of muggings and so forth, but mainly because of driving and traffic.
I posted a question the other week about why perfectly sane people act like complete idiots behind the wheel, and you should have seen some of the arrogant, snotty answers I got. A couple of cops weighed in as well, and one of them got the best answer.
I attribute it to plain stupidity -- people feel invincible behind the wheel, and they have that "it won't happen to me" syndrome. We'll see if they still feel that way with their faces mashed into their windshields, or as they sign a pile of tickets and criminal complaints for having needlessly caused a fatality on our streets.

How about better enforcement of the road rules and be stricter about taking the licences of those who can't drive away?
To give an incentive for those who've had their licences removed to not drive anyone caught driving on a suspended licence should go straight to jail.

I agree w/ b frisky. I'm 58, from an era when we drove cars that would eat most newer cars for breakfast, or a light afternoon snack. But we got extensive "Driver's ED". I still drive like I'm on a race track, But I also DRIVE DEFENSIVELY!

I AGREE AND MOST OF THEM ARE (BRAIN-DEAD).
I AGREE WITH RAISING THE AGE BUT THE PARENTS WOULD SUFFER.
I WOULD SUGGEST THAT DRIVING SCHOOL CLASSES BE A 6 MONTH OR 180 HOUR COURSE AND AFTER YOUR INSTRUCTOR DECIDES IF YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO DRIVE AND GET YOUR PERMIT.
THERE SHOULD BE A 1 YEAR PROBATION FOR THE NEW DRIVER.
ANY LAWS THAT ARE BROKEN, THEN THE LICENSE SHOULD BE SUSPENDED FOR 1 YEAR.

there are so many idiots on the road because everyone considers themselves to be an excellent driver while everyone else is an idiot
