Raised on the west side of Chicago, Wasalu is the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. His father (died February 27, 2007) was a prolific African drummer and karate teacher. His mother was a gourmet chef. Lupe began to rap when he was in the eighth grade, and began to pursue it at the age of seventeen.

Growing up, Wasalu had the nickname "Lu", the last part of his first name. "Lupe" is an extension of this nickname, which he borrowed from a friend named Lupe from high school. "Fiasco", he says, "came from the Firm album. They had the song, Firm Fiasco. I just liked the way it looked on paper". He stated that he did not originally like hip hop, but after buying Nas' album Illmatic (1994) he fell in love with it.

Honestly most of yall havent given him a chance yet

Lupe shows that Skateboard P ain’t got nothing on him when it come to the art of the skateboard and the stories to tell about it.

Before he knew he had a crew
That weren't no punk
In they Spitfire shirts and SB Dunks
They would Push, till they couldn't skate no more
Office building, lobbies weren't safe no more
And it wasn't like they weren't getting chased no more
Just the freedom is better than breathing they said (they said)
And they escape route, they used to escape out
When things got crazy they needed to break out (they'd head)
To any place with stairs, any good grinds the world was theirs, uh
And they four wheels would take them there
Till the cops came and said "There's no skating here"
So they Kick, Push Kick, Push Kick, Push Kick, Push Coast

Lupe is by far the most lyrical new comer in the game. forget Lil Wayne & T.I. , Lupe Fiasco is the real deal. Food & Liquor was Album of the year next to The Doctor's Advocate, and Hip Hop Is Dead. Lupe Fiasco has a long year ahead of him and , he will go down as one of raps greatest one day.

Well, technically there is no such thing as the "Best Rapper" unless there are certain standards or views. In Lupe's case, he is (25?), and he's great, no doubt, but he isn't the best. I'm sure he's not in his prime yet. But he could be the best as he gets older.

for my section Eminem is the final lyricist to ever hit the point. He speaks from the midsection and is unique. each physique else speaks with regard to a similar **** lower back and lower back lower back, collectively as Eminem switches it up and nevertheless regardless of each little thing his problems an make multiple the final raps ever. He raps nicely, yet his lyrics destroys something I even have ever heard.

Lupe's is one of the best youngest rapper I've heard. His "Tilted" was a huge success and his duet with Kanye in "Touch the Sky".

Is lupe in his prime? I think its too early to tell.

He has some very pretty sick orchestral music he raps over (have you heard lupes song "Jedi mind tricks" SIIiickness.

anyways, He is definitely not the best rapper out there. But hes one of the few that actually have some raw talent.

Yeah, I think he is great. Sad thing is, I have heard in some interviews that he might stop rapping after he is done with his record deal. He might just be too good, since those are the ones that die or retire. I just hope he doesnt turn out to be the male version of Lauryn Hill.

In my opinion. Lupe is the second best rapper right now. The best is Chamillionaire. Food & Liqour is a classic. I can't wait for The Cool.

the scary thing about him is he really isnt in his prime yet....

love this dudes wordplay and all around lyrical ability, flow and everything..one of my favorite tracks by him is The Pen & The Needlez

"Before I start, like to make sure I'm smart
Gather my composure, rather my swagger and my culture
Pivot my fitted, then begin to rivet, with a change of lyric
In other words, I reposition how I sit it,
Then make u "feel it" Like I mispronounced Filet"
