Well, this party isn't going to be for your child, who will no way remember this. It's going to be for you and your guests. So I'd say haul out the camcorder, take mucho video, and buy some cheap food and party favors. Play free games (like baseball, tag, whatever). Let your baby rest when she needs to--believe me, she will. If you're thinking you will show her the video when she's, like, 20 or whatever, I'd spend some time on camera talking about how incredible she is, how much she means to you, and how she has changed your life (good and--humorously, bad). THAT is something he/she will cherish. But above all, do not wear your child out or foist unrealistic expectations on her just because it's her birthday (she has no idea!). Keep it simple. Save the money for when she turns 16 and wants to hire Justin Timberlake to sing at her party.

I personally think people tend to go overboard on first birthdays. Babies don't have any idea what's going on and they won't remember anything. That's why it's so practical to do things on the cheap! I think $100.00 will be just fine. For my daughter's birthday I probably spend less than that. We had a quiet family dinner at my grandma's house and she cooked a lovely meal.

First off you have to think of the ages of the kids who will be coming to the party. All kids will be happy if there's a playground in the park. You could ask the parents to bring their kid's outdoor toys, ie soccer balls, basketballs, etc. Toddlers will love bubbles which you can buy for pennies anywhere. I wouldn't bother with gift bags. They're overrated, exspensive and unnecessary (my opinion). You have many years of birthdays ahead to have exspensive birthday parties!

As far as food goes you could do a bbq and ask family/friends to provide some side dishes. All parents know how exspensive birthday parties can be so I'm sure most will be more than happy to help out. Ask someone previously said, the Dollar Store and similiar places do very nice party plates and napkins.

Have a camcorder and camera at the ready to record the special day!

Keep to your daughter's schedule as much as possible. This will keep her happy and content. We kept to our daughter's nap and bedtime schedule on her first and second birthdays and she was able to enjoy the days without being cranky.

Most important of all...enjoy the day!!

You can always do a potluck if your family like to pitch in. Otherwise, buying a deli-tray of meat and cheese and getting rolls to make sandwiches is good. You can make side dishes. Chips and dip is always good. Bake a cake, or decorate cupcakes and big cookies for dessert. DollarTree, 99cent store, and Big Lots have tons of great party stuff for cheap. A pinata is fun if there are kids old enough to play. Tossing cheeseballs in the air and trying to catch them in your mouth is a fun and yummy game. The park will be fun enough for the kids and don't worry about party bags (they can be over-rated). If you can BBQ at the park, hot dogs could be another option. Hope it's great!

I spent easily 400.00 dollars on my daughters first! How many kids - do you really need that many games? And if you do, go to the dollar store for "prizes" Or gift bags. That's what we did. It saved so much money!!! Buy a bunch of grilled stuff if the park has a grill! But with only 100$ the only thing that will have to be really scarce is decoration but I think that all the kids wont care at all!!! GOOD LUCK!

Go to your local $ store for favors, plates, cups, decorations, etc. If you have a Costco card get food there if you are having a large group, or maybe just pick up fried chicken from your local grocery store deli. It is always cheaper than KFC. Make your own side dishes. That always saves money. Potato salad is cheap to make, as is pasta salads.

I bought a thick picture frame matt and had everyone who came sign it, and after I developed pictures from that day I put one in it and framed it. Memories!! Since mostly adults were at mine I just did simple games like "guess how many M&Ms" were in a sippy cup. Good luck
