If you believe so,can you explain the following verses, from context, starting from verse 13 of Matthew ch:16?
'And I say also unto thee, thou art Peter(Petros, pebble)and upon this rock(Petra-foundation stone,i.e.Peter's testimony that Jesus is Lord)will I build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.'Matt:ch:16:17-18.

Cephas is Syriac or Aramaic, its meaning corresponds to the Greek-Petros=a stone or pebble, piece apart from its foundation

Hi Zion,
No, Peter was not the rock.
In the Matt 16:18 account the Greek for 'Peter' is 'Petros' or movable stone, as how he denied Christ those three times. Now, also note in the same verse the Greek for 'rock' is 'Petra' or immovable stone. God was to build his church upon an immovable rock and in 1 Corinthians v4 God says that rock is Christ.
Also note verses 22-23 of Matt 16 as another example of Peters human thinking as he tries to prevent Jesus carrying out His Fathers will. Peter was, as we all are, found in the frailty of the flesh, and it is not upon flesh that he will build His Kingdom
Trust this helps

The "rock" or chief cornerstone is Jesus the bible says so, God may have used Peter but he is not the "rock"

Mat 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing,

then Peter himself added:

1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner

Yes,it was the statement Peter made that "Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God" that was the real rock. Peter was the rock but not until after he denied Jesus three times and repented. After that he was never weak again (except when Paul had to dress him down in Galatians).

No. Peter was the vacillating pebble.

Jesus is the Rock, the foundation stone, upon which His church is built.
