As a former Catholic, yes it does bother me to hear that. Because, (in my opinion) it detracts from the the glory due to the savior. I have always put it like this..

It is like someone (God) giving you a gift (Jesus) but instead of admiring/loving the gift, you are more focused on the gift-wrapping/ the box (Mary).

We are supposed to respect Mary for she can be a model to us all (in her obediance, can you not imagine her fear?) but like Paul said, there are many other "super apostles" that deserve to boast but he decided to "boast in the Lord". There are many other people in the Bible that have the title "blessed amoung men/ women" and others that have died for the Name of Jesus. But there is one God and to Him alone is all glory and honor due.

A better question is, do you think it bothers JESUS to hear His mother receive our praises? And don't you think He praises her Himself for her obedience and willingness to give Him her whole life, body and soul?

Yes it most certainly does but we have to overlook this doctrinal error and look to the person who needs Gods word revealed to them so the truth can make them free. I always go around that issue and work at salvation.

I completely agree with you. I think she was blessed to be able to give birth to christ... I also believe that not one person is any closer to god than the next (ie the pope being the holiest person alive) what makes him closer to god than me or you?
