She's a teenager and she believes in god and all that.
I tell her that fairytales are fairytales and she should get over it.
I think I'm right? Do you?

First of all, there is no manual that teaches parents how to raise their children. However, I do believe that arguably there are some ways to raise a child that are better than others. With that being said, we are taught as parents to help support our children into believing that they can be anything they want to be, because the sky's the limit. How are we able to expect our children to truly believe that if we preach just that, but then put limits on it at the same time?

A question for you to ponder is, what if you truly believed in something and your parents told you that it was just a fairytale? How would you feel? If you don't believe in God then that's your choice, but should you deny your daughter that very same choice? If she chooses to believe that God exists then at least understand that she could be doing or believing in something much, much worse. Religion and faith is a phenomenal part of someones life. Maybe you could try to explore this belief with her? This could bring both of you closer as mother and daughter. It could also give you some insight into a different world. If in the end you still believe that God is a fairytale, then at least respect your daughter's decision that God is real.

I think you should be open to whatever she decides to believe. Telling her God doesn't exist is very closed minded, it's on the same lines of Christians telling everyone He DOES exist. Let her make up her own mind.

You are right. Personally I won't stop their imagination because somehow it help them in the growing process. They will learn and forget it over times.
