Sit-ups & crunches are the standard ab exercises and are effective, start out doing 10-15 reps per set (minimum 3 sets) and work your way up. Below is a link for the best and worse ab exercises, of course these are a matter of opinion. I've done some of these and those have worked for me. Remember, the abs are a muscle so, you will need only need to work them every other day. Also eat healthy and drink plenty of water, this will also help your abs.

great abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym.

you can get a 6-pack with out ever doing 1 crunch or sit up with the right diet. but with out eating healthy you can do all the abdominal exercises in the world and you won't reduce your body fat enough to "see" the abdominal wall.

I train professional bodybuilders and fitness competitors all the time. many of them only do direct abdominal work for several weeks out of the year.

everyone has a 6-pack. it's the amount of fat the covers up the muscles that makes the difference and abdominal training has no effect on reducing body fat.

Hi,

I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at http://www.better-life-thinner.us where they have a free trial and you only pay $6.95 shipping and handling.
Good luck!

There are lots of equipment-free ab workouts, all you gotta do is make time to do them! In my strength training class an ab workout is part of the warm-up. We do each exercise for 30 seconds with ten second rest periods in between, two reps of each exercise, it takes us about 7 minutes.
About has some good ones: http://exercise.about.com/cs/abs/l/blbeginnerabs.htm
