My golden retriver is 1 years old he is a purebred. People say that he should weigh about 60-80 but he weighs only 43 pound is this a problem? Also he has been eating regularly and is eating all the essential vitamins he needs. He is also a few inches shorter than he is by around 8 inches. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. Even though he may not be as stron as other dogs he will still be my best friend.

If he is healthy and happy then I wouldn't worry.

I would say that many people would love your golden. This is why we get miniature and toy versions of other breeds. They seem to be cropping up everywhere. People like the looks and the temperament but need something smaller. If you weren't looking for a show dog, it doesn't matter.

You should enjoy your miniature golden. You have so much less hair to pick up.

OK, let me tell you what I have and maybe you will feel better about your dog. I have three Saints all purebred. One my male is 209 pounds and still doesn't look fat. He is tall and muscular. I have a female Saint that looks just like a Golden Retriever with Saint markings. The breeder said they would take her back but, I kept her as a pet after I had her spayed. Now I paid top dollar for this dog. She only weighs 95 pounds and that is way below the 120-160 lbs she should weigh. She is a WONDERFUL pet and I love her personality. I dont breed her, she's a pet. I have another female Saint that has just turned a year old, she hasn't grown in to herself yet and I still dont know if she is breeding quality. She looked horrible for the first seven months, she had this curly hair like a poodle that drove me nuts. Now however at a year old she is shaping up nicely. I still wont know if she is breeding quality until her second year when she is fully grown and tested for eyes, cardiac, Pennhip and OFA. ANY of us even those who claim to be experts dont know what a dog will be until it is grown. Your dog still has a year to go. Relax and enjoy, train and develop your dogs personality. Does it really matter so much what others think? Why does it need to be strong?

Some dogs are just smaller. As long as the parents were healthy and he is healthy, there is nothing to worry about. If you are really worried, have the vet check him out, but some dogs just don't grow as big.
By the way, we have a totally healthy male Doberman in rescue right now that only weighs 47 pounds, where males are supposed to weight 75-90 pounds. Your dog weighs less than standard, but unless you are wanting to show him, it doesn't matter.

As long as he is healthy, that is all that matters. My daughter bought a golden pup for my grandson's birthday one year. She let him pick and je chose the runt. She probably weighs about what your golden weighs, she is very petite for a golden. She is very healthy and has not had any problems.

I have a chihuahua that was the runt out of a litter of 6. She has always been very healthy. Has a little proble with her eyes and we have to use drops all the time, but other than that she is perfect.

Large breed dogs don't usually finish growing until about 18 months of age. If he's still smaller by then it could be because he was the runt and/or one or both of the parents were on the smaller side of the standard. If you're concerned, ask your vet. Otherwise, who cares. So your best friend will be smaller. Enjoy him!

You dog sounds fine. Dogs are like people not every one is avg. As long as the dog is eating fine ( for its size) and gets exercise. You should not wory about it. Som dogs grow more later in life like people and other animals do. If you think you really have a problem. Go to a vet.

He's only a year old, still has some filling out to do. Might not get much taller but he will probably add on a few pounds.
